@Lord Nightmare: Looks like i have the first smile (1)

@ssj: True that with Thrust, just checked my roms. Personally, I wouldnt think its wise to put them into MAME, but only because people put still a lot effort and love in creating those games (just like you all with MAME) and it wouldnt be fair to do such a thing. If there wouldnt be everdrive-like counterparts, where you can do everything with a sd card and a usb-connection, it would be ok i guess, but as long such things exists, no one would buy a new homebrew and whats worse, no one would write new ones.

That would bring up a long discussion, but for me that doesn't really do any harm because you buy a homebrew game due to the whole package which includes boxart, real cart an overlay in this case, etc.

There are a lot of devs that offer ROMs of their games to download for free and the physical releases still get sold out really fast. Collectors won't care about ROMs being available they want the real thing since that's the only thing that has any value.

I respect they aren't include in MAME softlists, just brought it up because there was never a consistency about this since there are plenty of commercial games on them.

What are you even talking about? Non-commercial games are just fine to put in software lists. Hap literally just said that one page ago.

(huh? I pressed Submit and my reply didn't get through? Let's try again..)

This is about commercial homebrews, or today's term would be 'indie'. Suppose if one is dumped already and spread widely on the internet, it won't do much harm supporting it in MAME.

If accepted, will the overlays be added in romset ?

Cause like the handhelds, it doesn't make much sense to play without them

AFAIK it's not possible currently. Simply putting the .lay and .png in the swlist game zipfile won't work.

First, Vectrex is good even without Overlays, they are just a nice bonus and add some color to the b/w games and secondly you just add a vectrex.zip to the artwork files and you have the overlays in the video menue of the UI.

The current ones, can be downloaded here: http://www.mess.org/_media/artwork/vectrex.zip

*note: these are not mine laugh

You might want to read closely.

You might want to, too.
