Greetings all!

It's been about a year since I asked this question, and though I don't expect a different answer, I'm at a point in my project where I could use some clarification...

If I remember/understand correctly, multiple mouse/trackball devices are handled in Windows MAME as separate devices (Mouse 1, Mouse 2, and so on), while there is no provision for this in what may still be referred to as SDLMAME.

Does MAME handle this, or Windows directly?

I seem to recall some talk of looking into a way around this (or perhaps that multi-trackball support may still be added to SDL at some point in the future). Is this still the case, or should I lower my hopes of being able to someday enjoy a two player game of Marble Madness on my Mac? smile

Also, are there other games that would take advantage of a second trackball (or spinner, for that matter)?

SDL 2.0.5 still does not support multiple mice; it's allegedly going to happen in 2.1 now.

Well, that's better news than I was expecting, and I'll be looking forward to SDL 2.1 whenever it becomes a real thing...

In the meantime, I still need a little clarification about the handling of multiple mice in the Windows environment.

Does Windows handle multiple mice directly, or is this something that MAME handles internally, or is it some combination of both?

Oh, and should we be updating to SDL 2.0.5?

On the Mac SDL 2.0.5 fixes a lot of awful bugs and is strongly recommended. On Linux it's less important but still nice.

MAME on Windows allows multiple mice/spinners/trackballs, I don't know the details on how to set it up though.

Thank you!

I'll look into updating SDL to 2.0.5 later today...

As to the question of multiple trackballs, etc., knowing it's supported is a big help... I may seek more details on another forum, but knowing the support is there tells me I'm going in the right direction... smile
