Yeah cars, not out of scope and lots of them.

Currently MAME has a driver for the talking car which used the speak & spell chip.

I scraped up as many roms from car ECUs as I could find a few years ago due to the emissions cheating going on by VW, here they are on archive.org

Now I don't know the arch of all of these dumps, I know bosch ECUs use an MPC555 which is PowerPC and that Nissan went SuperH

In this thread I hope to collect as much tech information about car ECUs so they can be documented for the future and for people to be able to fix their "vintage" cars just like we can with arcade boards.

Any help in sorting these dumps is appreciated.

https://www.alchemistowl.org/pocorgtfo/pocorgtfo16.pdf - article starting page 7, on dumping and emulating his cars ECU

Edit: the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier in this article uses a Motorola 68332

We know that Subaru in the early-to-mid 90s used M37700-series MCUs, but I don't think we have any dumps (I haven't looked at the giant blob on archive.org yet).

I hope so but have no idea, I was pretty agnostic in my scraping but don't know that much about cars. the idea of the Ferrari Outrun has in being in MAME almost feels like an april fools joke.

Even more exciting than ECU would be emulating the in-car multimedia systems (many of which run on linux now) or the multi-information displays (which would extend to communicating to all the other ECUs for sensor readings).

You wouldn't go to the toilet in the police officer's helmet. And then send it to the police officer's grieving widow. And then steal the helmet again!

No lie, I would download the SHIT out of a DeLorean if it were in the form of an easily-printable 3D model that I could pay my roommate to print out on his 3D printer.

I've had some luck with a tool called winOLS in identifying the cpu from the bins alone: https://i.imgur.com/JvOcWm8.png
