Win10

Not sure if this is a bug or I just have something set up wrong.

When I select an alternate emu (Demul) to run a game. It works fine, but when I shut down QMC2 it resets the selection back to Mame when I restart QMC2.

Thanks for the great program.

I never tried demul, but it's likely not enough like MAME, so it will not work this way. QMC2 officially supports only MAME (including "MESS" builds) and HBMAME. You can ignore the checks that QMC2 does (there are options for this), but it will only work if the emulator expects the same command line options that MAME uses and produces the same (kind of) output to stdout/stderr. Otherwise it has to be treated as a so called "foreign emulator" (see wiki).

Demul works pretty good on the Naomi and Hikaru based games. You just set it up as a foreign emu and launch it with [-run=naomi -rom=$ID$]. I'm having some problems getting it to start in fullscreen, with no mouse pointer, but nothing to do with QMC2.

My question is when I switch to the right side of QMC2 where the preview snaps reside. Then tab through the selections at the top. I come to one called Configuration. I assume this is machine specific configuration. When I click on that tab I see "Emulator for this machine : Default" followed by all the Mame specific configs. When I select Demul from my list of command line emulators and then click on the game it plays as expected. Everything seems right at this point. I can even go play other games and then come back and click on the Demul game and it starts and exits again fine. When I shut down QMC2 and then restart it. All the games I set for Demul revert back to Default. Is that by design? If so, Is there a way I can get QMC2 to remember that I want it to use a foreign emulator for a specific game?

Ah, that's a different story... well, it's supposed to the keep your foreign emulator setup. So you either did something wrong or there's a bug. I will test it at the weekend.

Quick update.

It seems that QMC2 is resetting the foreign emu tab for whatever game you have highlighted when you shut QMC2 down. It doesn't reset your entire list. Hope that helps.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean... I just tried with RAINE (there's apparently no demul for Linux) and it works fine for me so far. QMC2 re-selects the last selected game on the foreign emu tab, just as it should. Nothing gets reset or lost somehow.

Did you exit QMC2 then return to see if it reset the changes?

It only seems to be resetting the game that was highlighted when you exit QMC2.

An easy work around for me is to exit QMC2 with any game that isn't set for foreign emu.

So for instance. If I go select a Naomi game. It'll play the foreign emu normal. If I then exit QMC2 with that game still hi-lighted. It'll reset that game to Default, and the next time I run QMC2 it'll be back to Mame.

Hope that makes sense. Using windows10 btw.

If I'm not describing this well enough, I can make a quick video to show you what it's doing.

Sorry for the low quality. Trying to show you 1) how if you change tabs it resets your selection. 2) how when you exit, it resets the selection you had last selected.

Ah, you're now talking about the configuration tab again (not the foreign emu tab). Yeah, that combo-box selection isn't restored - intentionally. You should actually specify "custom IDs" for foreign emulators, then select a game from the foreign emulators tab. That's what I tested above.

I could change that, of course. Feel free to file a feature request over at our tracker.

Thank you, I'll do that.
Thanks again for making QMC2. I've been on a Mac for the past 7 years, and I would have been lost without it.
