Addionally, sound in a variety of games is incorrect:
-Melody in Ms. Pac-Man at start of game -"skreech" noise - Ditto with Frogger Melody.

-Sound(s) in Megamania are the wrong pitch as well.

-Sound Pitch in Masters of the Universe - The Power of He-Man

The graphics are incorrectly displayed in the following games:
-Masters of the Universe - The Power of He-Man - Opening picture of Adam - His right arm.

-Journey Escape and Cosmic Ark starfield.

*EDIT
Forgot another issue-
Controller support:
-Astroblast - Game can utilize either Paddles or Joystick support. Currently joystick support leaves your ship flushed to the right only able to fire.

Hope above helps,
Trebor

I don't find the colors to be dark. I would agree the colors *may* be slightly on the darker side on a (CRT) monitor display. However, via S-Video on my 27" Panasonic - it looks fine. No struggle at all seeing the playfield. In fact (as you probably know), always the image on the TV is brighter than the monitor, and to tell you the truth it looks closest to the 2600 color palette via the TV than any other emulator, when compared to the actual machine on the same television. As a side note, I use a Radeon 9600 PRO card.

Question in regards to this - is there any way to obtain a "true" color palette for the 2600? For instance, the NES in conjunction with NTSC 'standard', I've been under the impression that an exact palette is impossible and that differences between video cards and monitors/TV sets will cause various subjective opinions on what is an 'accurate' palette. I'm wondering if the same holds true for the 2600.

Thanks,
Trebor

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've recompiled with the CVS version, and with Judge's alter ations to a2600.c and 6532riot.c and I still can't get Pitfall II to do anything. I see you list it as "Graphical Glitches" but on mine, it does nothing. It jumps right back to the GUI, as if the driver weren't loading at all. But everything else is as it is listed here.

Is mine a Bad dump? Is there another version I should be using?

Most fixes aren't in CVS yet, because we're still working on them.

I took a quick look at the documentation of the PDC chip used in Pitfall II and tried to implement (most of) it. You can see the game starting but the graphics are totally screwed, so you're not missing out on much there smile

Just to let you know, I won't be doing any further work on the Atari 2600 driver, at least not for the foreseeable future. There's other projects I'm interested in, and now that development of this driver is continued by other people it's no longer on top of my agenda.

Best of luck to judge et al.

I'm in the process of reassigning all the Atari 2600 bugs to nobody@mess.org - if someone wants to candidate to become the new maintainer, please do it now! wink

BTW there are a lot of bug reports that have been probably fixed by latest changes: Judge, could you give them a look and close them accordingly?

I'm just curious as to where the a2600 driver adjustments stand. Judge had made some significant improvements, which he posted in another thread. I had downloaded thos files and done comparison compilations with his changes and without, just using the default files from CVS.

Unfortunately, Some of the changes in bringing the CVS up to date with Mame .83u2 have caused a regression, in that I cannot compile MESS using judge's changed a2600.c and 6532riot.c with the latest CVS. It simply crashes out and never finishes.

Are there any plans to implement any of judge's changes, or are we holding off until more are made?

Just curious.

I just compiled the latest CVS.

Space Shuttle and various other Atari 2600 games caused it to crash. There must be a regression somewhere.

Space Shuttle did not cause a crash, though it didn't work. Did Space Shuttle ever work?
