And finally...

Which leads to...

It takes forever to load the program though, I'm going to have to see if I can get it to detect DMA. And there's not much to show once the program does load.

Impressive work, Arbee. If you can eventually distill it into a WIP page update rather than something I have to reconstruct from screenshots , I'll share it.

Not a bad idea. I'll see if I can write something up.

How can the emulated system know about the "MAME Compressed Hard Disk" Drive type? Is the drive type string read out of the disk or something?

yeah, unfortunately all MAME HDDs identify as that at the moment as the responses to the drive identify commands are simulated. At some stage MAME needs to start emulating the real drives, with the real drive timings, proper firmwares for the drive type at least loaded (even if the HLE identification remains) and proper capacities, CHS etc. for each drive (there are quite a few older CHDs in MAME with complete nonsense values in these fields at the moment)

it's just a bit of a hangover from when the CHD system was first introduced as just a way of storing large amounts of data, without caring about the actual drive types.

Zoofari made the VP101 board cheaper by replacing the high-performance VR5500 with a slower TX4925 SoC and then they reprogrammed the FPGA so nearly everything else was done differently. But once we found out what they'd done it wasn't so bad.

No, I don't know why it says the partition info is bad, it seems to go ahead and load the program fine anyway. (ETA: Smit's original PCB gives the same message about bad partition info).

The ROM set for the pcg815 driver is not complete.
rom0b.bin, rom0c.bin and rom0d.bin are missing.
The SHARP PC-G815 has 14 ROMs.
I will upload to the FTP server.

The DU got an unknown Konami board, which turned out to be the satellite terminal for their GI-Classic EX horse racing game.

See https://mamedev.emulab.it/undumped/index.php?title=GI_Classic_EX

I expect the weirdness with the title screen drawing will be solved in OG's Konami rewrite.

We do need to start marking these things as partial I think. Right now somebody might look at MAME and think the whole thing is dumped, when in reality just one board from the setup is, and if they're anything like the Sega or Taito setups there might be 4-5 different PCBs that need dumping before anything can be done, including PCBs with no video output at all.

Eg. there's not really any hope of Royal Ascot 2 (Model 2) that was dumped running, because in that case we only have the main screen roms, none of the satellites, none of the comms boards that sit in the middle (and likely run the game logic)

I've updated the documentation in the driver and the set name to make the partial nature a bit more obvious.
