Aha! Well, that happens when the Phonon back-end can't find the codec (probably some "missing" DLL(s), yes).

The Qt documentation suggests to look up the error-code on MSDN:
http://doc.qt.nokia.com/4.7/phonon-mediaobject.html#errorString

I googled for this error and quite a number of sites suggest to (re)install the newest Windows Media Player version for your OS. But I'm not sure if this can really help...

BTW, @etabeta78, @Micko, or whoever might know about it: how has the discussion regarding "-listsoftware" evolved? I haven't heard of it for months... the reason I ask is that I would like to finish the software-list support, but I wouldn't want to invest too much time on it when the decision for how to scan software hasn't been made yet...

Unfortunately, a reinstall of the Media Player 11 (last version for XP) was not helpful.
Thank you for the research. smile

Thanks, Kaylee, for the info... I'll look into it and see how I can support it smile.

Is there a way to somehow get "speaking names" for the slot options? It's no problem if not, but if there is I would like to present them to the user.

Code:
rene@thunder:~/src/mess-svn> ./mess64 -listslots maciicx
SYSTEM SLOT NAME SLOT OPTIONS SUPPORTED
---------- -------------------- ------------------------------------
maciicx nb9 48gc
                                    cb264
                                    vikbw

             nba 48gc
                                    cb264
                                    vikbw

             nbb 48gc
                                    cb264
                                    vikbw

Guess I'll integrate that with the device setup since it's very related.

"Speaking names" do exist - if you do -listdevices on a driver with some cards installed you see them. Micko, can those be plumbed out to -listslots as well?
