Hi everybody-

I checked around google and in the FAQ but did not see my problem.

I'm running the latest MAME for OS X on 10.5.8 and it used to work just fine a few months ago, but for the past several months I can't get the application to open without it crashing.

I've tried reinstalling MAME several times with no improvements and last night tried different versions of MAME OS X in case it was a problem with .135 or something.

If it's helpful I can copy paste the crash report thing from when it crashes on here.

Thanks!!!!

MAME OS X is no longer an active project. That said, usually when it crashed it was due to the presence of add-on audio hardware such as a ProTools or M-Audio setup. If you have anything of that nature, try disconnecting it and see if MAME OS X will start up.

Hmm! Well it doesn't seem to be helping when I disconnected and restarted the comp. I realize it's not longer an active project... is there another program I can use instead?

Try using SDLMAME (now merged with MAME) and a compatible frontend?

Sourcecode:
http://www.mamedev.org

Binaries (Unofficial):
http://sdlmame.parodius.com/
or compile your own (see stickies): http://www.bannister.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=8&page=1

Homepage:
http://www.mamedev.org
http://rbelmont.mameworld.info/?page_id=163 (defunct?)

Frontends:
M+ GUI I hear is getting popular for Mac: http://www.bannister.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=59649
or QMC2: http://www.bannister.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=65216

MAME OS X (http://mameosx.sourceforge.net/) is defunct... last updated 0.135.

Is there any hope that MAME OS X will ever be updated again?

The idea of compiling my own code, getting it to work with a "front-end" churns my stomach. Seriously this is Mac, it's supposed to be easy. smile

Lots of life-long Mac users have successfully learned to compile, it's really not complicated at all smile

You don't need to compile (SDL) MAME when there's binaries right here: http://sdlmame.parodius.com/

However, I believe if for some reason you're still running a PPC Mac, you're SOL for getting pre-built binaries anywhere...
