Chris44:

This is very nice collection. Some of those can be dumped using debug, but since these are not full ibm compatibles, not sure if they expose all roms visible, so at least making images of inside of machines would be nice to confirm roms sizes and additional hardware. Getting real eprom reader to dump them would be cool.

Here are some more files:

I dumped the ROMs of the three Rainbow 100's I have - all are model B's - so they could well be identical, but I haven't checked. There's a text file inside the archive with descriptions of the machines and their add-on cards.

DEC Rainbow 100 ROM images

The video card that provides graphics (rather than text) output is present in two of my three machines, it's using the 7220 controller. I can't read the two PAL chips on it atm, maybe someone else can jump in here.

If you want some (very bad) video clips of the "maxed out" Rainbow in action, here they are:

From switch on to MS-DOS from the Winchester

DOS and WordPerfect for the Rainbow

Windows 1.03 and Write

I have to start Windows by entering the application program I want to see - plain "win" gives a blank "MS-DOS" window ... it's waiting for something, either a disk to come online or a mouse.

Hi,

_1 looks fine, they are all same as on site you gave link for initial dumps. Also video rom looks fine (except RB100_B3_3.HEX that is blank).

The _2 roms look strange like they have stucked bit's.

RB100_B3_2.BIN FIXED BITS (xxxx1xx1)

Also RB100_HD_2.BIN RB100_B_2.BIN are different then original dump, but variable stucked bits.

Will hook up video rom to check how it looks.

Sorry, apart from the part numbers (2732 or 27128) the ROMs in all three machines only have white blank labels to shut out the light.

The stuck bits might well be due to the eprommer I'm using (on a C128), as my regular one has packed in. frown

OK ... I've ordered an eprommer from Hongkong ... should be a while to arrive. In the meantime I've re-tried with my old one, and I've taken lots of pictures. I'll break this up machine by machine.

The PC-D has the mainboard, a graphics board and a (I guess) SASI=>MFM harddisk controller.
The keyboard is non-standard, warm start is rather PC-style with Ctrl-Alt-Löschen (which is of course delete)

The NCR DMV has lots of little options modules that plug into the mainboard at the back of the machine. Together with the internal slot, this is one heck of a machine.

I've taken pictures of the mainboard and the modules I have, for most of them I also have the technical documentation:

They keyboard is non-standard again, warm start is via Ctrl-F20.

The internal 8086 (or rather V20) module is special, as it allows the 68k module to be added externally. This allows a wide range of OS: CP/M-80, CP/M-86, DOS, CP/M-68k and USCD-Pascal are the ones I know of.

I've dumped the ROM of the 8086 module with my old eprommer:

NCR DMV 8086 option ROM

The hard disk is in an external enclosure that is connected via an option module that in turn connects to a SASI=>MFM controller, as you can see in the pictures.

The DEC Rainbow 100 is packed with option boards. I've taken pictures of the mainboard, the floppy controller, the HD controller (MFM), the graphics board and the memory expansion.

The keyboard is (again) non-standard, F3 enters a monitor, Ctrl-F3 is the warm start.

The small 4K ROM actually has a DEC marking on it ... 23U37E300 ... missed it the first time, sorry.
I've re-dumped the ROMs that Micko mentioned in one of his last posts, but will re-do them again soon.

More ROM dumps of the DEC Rainbow

Those are nice pictures and good info. The DMV sounds like quite an interesting machine!
