Hi,
So, I'm trying to write a driver for the VTech Genius PC / Genius IQ 512 computers.

Here is the patch with current sources :
http://pulkomandy.tk/drop/geniusiq.diff

And some info about the computer :
http://pulkomandy.tk/projects/avrstuff/wiki/geniuspc
(there is a ROM dump of the French Genius PC on this page)

I'm looking for :
* Rom dumps of the other versions (Genius IQ 512 in Germany, and likely others around the world) for similar machines
* Advice on the (very early) driver. I'm sure I managed to do something wrong...
* Help with understanding the hardware. Any m68000 wizard around ?

Unfortunately, it seems that MESS debugger needs GTK and X11, and I don't have these on Haiku, so I can't go much further for now, until I can spare some space on my hard disk and install a more classical operating system...

Just to clarify, the debugger needs GTK only. It should work on non-X GTK targets, although that obviously hasn't been tested much smile

Yes, that's actually the problem.
Setting up a remote X server would be ok (I have an X station running NetBSD around here), but porting GTK to Haiku definitely is not...

I'll try to find or setup some kind of unix box so I can continue on this.

Ok, I set up Debian/kFreeBSD on another computer so I can now run the debugger. Obviously the code don't run very far with not any of the hardware emulated, so I'll work on studying the ROM code now.

I've also gathered some more infos about the different versions :
* People from the MESS community are going to send me the ROM chips of the German Genius IQ128 and UK IT Unlimited versions, so I can compare them to the French version.
* I found that the US version is called Precomputer Unlimited. Looks rather similar to the other versions. I also noticed that on the French packaging, same pictures as on the US versions are used, but modified to show something that looks like the French device. This is likely the only place where you can see a Genius PC with QWERTY keyboard smile

not sure if it's the same guy you are in contact with, but TeamEurope has both a IQ128 (which they do not know how to dump) and also a VTech Genius Laptop (which I think they dumped last year)

just PM me if you need an email address to get in touch with them.

EDIT: oh, and good luck with debugging this machine. i've always been curious about these systems...

Yes, the IQ128 rom comes from Team Europe smile

I'm currently patching the IRA reassembler so I can have a closer look at the sourcecode. Working with a 5MB+ disassembly listing is painful, so I first added support for splitting the file in sections. Next step is to add the possibility to insert comments in the generated listing, and redefining external symbols names so we can see smething in there. The result will be close to dz80 that I'm using a lot for z80 code and is very helpful.

IQ128 ROM dump finally done.
http://pulkomandy.tk/projects/avrstuff/raw-attachment/wiki/geniuspc/GERMAN.ROM.zip

It looks surprisingly different from the French version. I expected more similarities. But it means we have two versions of the code to better check the hardware emulation, now.
