Yeah, apparently Firewave doesn't use the same compiler as anyone else, because nobody can compile now.

MESS SVN r15722: according to Wikipedia / DEC timeline the VAX-11/785 was "introduced in April 1984".

I know it's just a skeleton driver at the moment, but it's nice to see VAX emulation coming -- it reminds me of the early days at university smile.

Yeah, 35 people logged into an 11/780 trying to finish their Pascal homework. 5 minutes to compile a 50 line program, good times smile

Hehe, exactly! But VMS was one of the first OSs having sort of a "journaling" file-system at least smile (well, it was a "versioning" FS, tbh).

BTW, I asked Micko about this a while ago already, is there interest in emulating sun4u/sparcv9 systems in the "not too far" future? I have a few... two Ultra-1's, two Ultra-10's and two E250's.

I know the architecture is complex, but I still hope these systems will eventually be added. All I can do to support it is a bit of documentation (sparc-docs.zip, well some PDFs are quite comprehensive), offering images and (if I knew how to do it) probably dumps.

Sparcs are definitely of interest, but until someone invents a cloning machine so there can be like 15 of me they're fairly far down the list given the requirement of a complete CPU core with FPU and MMU. Sun 1/2/3 will likely happen first.

Of course, if someone else wants to do them, they're more than welcome smile

OK, whoever / whenever someone needs something from the real machines, get back to me wink ... I'm not gonna sell them anytime soon (if ever). Despite one of the E250's (which has a faulty fan, but this can be repaired) all systems should actually work flawlessly, perhaps I can start to find out how to create dumps w/o breaking them smile.

I think I gave up on SPARC after reading to about halfway of the V9 spec.

It's an interesting architecture, but emulating it requires a healthy dose of insanity :P
