Is such a conversion possible?

Asking since I need some Saturn games in bin+cue format and they were only available at linlhutz's japanese packs and since a certain site closed it's doors they are nowhere to be found online anymore (at least to my knowledge).
Since they are in the MESS set converted to CHDs I was hoping I might be able to convert them back to bin+cue.

If you use *.cue as output, cue/bin files will be created so far I know.

chdman extractcd -i blah.chd -o blah.cue -ob blah.bin

but if the gaps got messed up due to being made with old chdman versions (or because the original cues were malformed) I can't help you ;-)

Thanks! Wasn't aware of that nice chdman GUI Anna that certainly makes things much easier, I take it I can download the latest version from here:
http://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=83021&page=2

It comes bundled with a chdman.exe from march 2013, is this the latest version?

Haze got me a bit worried though, how can I be sure if the conversion process will be ok? Should I simply scan my chds with cmp to make sure they are all v5?

Also, curious about something, if the chd was created from a redump.org dump which has multiple audio tracks (in separate files) how would this work? Would it generate multiple audio files as well or a unique cue+bin file with all tracks inside the bin?

well the output you get is the output you get, if things did get trashed on the initial conversion then there's nothing you can do to change that (some of the CHDs listed are almost certainly bad)

It will always output a single .cue/.bin combo, even if there were multiple input tracks.

The rule of thumb is never delete your original source so you don't need to worry about extracting correctly (although such an implementation would be highly beneficial)

Also in some cases since BIN/CUE is obviously uncompressed, it's nice to just run it as that.

I see what you mean, I thought you meant if the original chd was converted using v3 and I was now extracting it with the current chdman that might produce problems.

Should the CRC32 of the generated bin file match the one from the original set? I'm guessing it should, so if anyone has linlhutz's pack and could double check the CRCs for me that would be great and the only way for me to know that all went well. It's only a handful of games that I need so I can convert those and send the CRCs of the generated bin files for confirmation.

I always prefer bin+cue over chds, on top of everything you can also burn them to physical media smile

You were right the first time, conversions using v3 will have improper gap data. They might work right anyway if the layout isn't doing anything outstandingly tricky (ie, 99% of Saturn games) but it's the remainder that can bite hard smile

The extracted bin will only CRC match the original if the original only had 1 track.

Ah thanks, well those odds don't seem too bad considering I only need a bunch of games converted smile

You mean even if the source is a single bin file with multiple tracks inside it (such as darkwater or linlhutz sets contrary to TOSEC or Redump) CRCs won't match?
