ssj- The fellow sending them is scanning all the cases and he's going to send those to me at some point. I'll need some place to upload them. Or better yet, I could mail an SD card with them to someone with better internet access....

I scanned the cases of the games that I did before he started sending them. I can get those to anyone who's interested.

Stiletto- looking at pics of MM, it's got a different LCD panel than anything I've done before, so it might not match any of the PCBs I've already made up. Hopefully it does have a Sharp SM5; I've deglobbed several OKI dies that I haven't found any info about.

I deglobbed Judge Dredd, Swamp Thing, The Shadow and Robin Hood and they are all SM510s. Baseball has a different LCD panel and it looks like it's probably an SM512.

I probably need help cleaning up the LCD pics. Along with miscellaneous dust specks, most of the panels have lots of "dead crystals" which show up as the opposite color. It's easy but tedious to clean them up unless they cross a segment; then it's a pain. I would upload jpegs of the panels if someone could clean them up and run potrace on them to make SVGs. Then I'd take the SVGs and ID the segments.

Here's an example zoomed in. Using potrace on this without first cleaning it up would leave a bunch of holes in the object and some of the darker specks would get vectorized. The left side of the cone would get a couple of spurs. I find it a lot easier to clean the raster up before using potrace than editing the vector after. I use GIMP and a small pencil brush in black or white to go over the spots. But there are hundreds of spots to fix per panel, and it takes me a couple of hours to clean up each one.

Thanks! Here are the 2 that I haven't done. I'll start taking pics of the others.

Ninja Gaiden's A and F digit segments didn't turn on, but I double-checked and all the rest are there. I think you can clone those from the 0 digit, but let me know if you want me to take another pic.

I'm definitely interested in those, but I suggest uploading them to archive.org instead. There will be no issues with space there and they will be preserved for the future generations.

You are obviously much more efficient at this than I am! I'll take some more pics.

Dang it, there was something wrong with the Batman pic. All these LCD panels have 41 connections; 4 commons then 33 segments then the 4 commons again. The traces for the commons have dots on them, which I guess are capacitors to help filter out DC that would harm the display. But the Batman panel has 5 dots on each side instead of 4. I'll have to follow the traces on the PCB to see what's going on, but not all the segments were turned on. Sorry about that.

I did take pics of Judge Dredd: www.seanriddle.com/dreddlcd.jpg

That's alright, I can redo Batman.

Judge Dress* is done:

Is it correct that the baddie near the score digits is missing part of his arms?

*typo too funny to fix

Yeah, that looks weird, but it's correct. It looks like they had to cut off his arm to route some traces.

I put the Batman panel back on my PCB, but still couldn't get the missing segments to turn on. I pulled off the elastomeric strip and cleaned everything, but that didn't help. I'm not sure how there could be 5 commons with an SM510, or why they would need 5, since there aren't more than 132 segments. I'll follow the PCB traces tonight and try to figure out what's going on.

Judge Dress - a new reality TV show?

OK, I replaced the Batman LCD pic: http://www.seanriddle.com/tigerbatmanlcd.jpg

I hadn't noticed that this panel has 43 connections instead of 41. At first it looked like they were using S1 as the fifth common, but then I cleaned more epoxy off the PCB and found some tricky trace routing. It turns out that 4 of the 10 common connections are to H4. Once I connected the extra 2 traces, the missing segments came on.
