Well, Ninja Gaiden's LCD panel's connector pitch is 1.1 mm, not 1.2 like the other games. So none of my rigs can turn on one segment at a time to ID them. I'll put it aside until I make a new PCB.

I did finish up the Judge Dredd info:

Funny, Ninja Gaiden has a LED behind the LCD?

Judge Dredd: does the PCB or case show a clue on when this game was released? It's not 1995, that's the movie trademark year. Google doesn't say much, but there's one site that says 1998. The earliest can be 1997, since it says "made in China, Hong Kong" and the UK Hong Kong colony ended in 1997.

Yeah, the LED is connected to R2. I guess the LED is why they went to a 1.1 mm pitch; there are 4 unused connectors above the LED, and the smaller pitch fits 45 in the same width as 41 on the other games.

The front of Judge Dredd's case says (c) 1995 Cinergi TM & (C) 1995 Egmont Foundation. The back has the standard (c) 1988 Tiger Electronics. It has a 2-piece PCB; the one with the die says (c) 1992, and the one with the buttons says (c) 1991. None of the parts has a date code.

Primal Rage's LCD has more connectors than normal, so I assume it's an SM512. Heavy Barrel has an 18-pin DIP on the PCB! Maybe something to help create sound effects? 18-pin DIP makes me think PIC. I just put these 2 aside for now since I have so many.

Here's the LCD pic for Swamp Thing: http://www.seanriddle.com/swampthinglcd.jpg

BTW, the background scans are out there, too.

Edit- I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a segment in the bottom left corner. It sure looks like it, but I tried cleaning and repositioning the panel several times and never got anything to show up. I just noticed the reflection on the upper left corner; maybe it's cracked? I'll look at it under the microscope.

Ok I'll wait for your update on swampthing. =)
If it's a (partial) shrub, it can be copy-pasted from one of the others. The id can be determined from row/column connected to other segments.

SSJ sent me the PCBs from Colorvision and the Submarine cart. Unfortunately, under the glob was an OKI chip- MSM6502 (no relation). That's the 3rd or 4th OKI die I've seen in handheld LCD games. Bitsavers has a databook with info on this one. It has test pins, but they weren't bonded out. I need to clean the die some more, but I can't see any ROM bits.

He also sent Thief in Garden, which has a Sharp SM5 (probably 510), and Lansay Football (soccer). The chip in Thief is a 60 QFP marked 0019 238E TRONICA, and the Football chip is also a 60 QFP, marked Gakken 6814 3.E. But the Football pinout doesn't match any Sharp chips.

With the OKI chip, maybe staining would work?

Judge Dredd is added and working. The SVG didn't have the ID for the bottom-right guy's body armor. Is it 2-27(0.13.1)?
