I have a couple of Atari language courses which I can dump as wav if that would be useful.

You'll have to wait till next year though wink

Space Destroyer for the APF Imagination has an intro story on the right channel and the data on left.

yeah, many APF Imagination tapes did indeed store audio instructions on the second side and the system was able to read them both at once smile

Adding the cassette isn't as 'simple' as most other computers. The cassette player was hooked up to the SIO bus on the atari 8bits. The SIO bus supports more than just the cassette player. I guess that that may be why it was never hooked up.

at the moment the SIO is hardcoded to emulate floppies. we shall make it a slot device and offer the various possible extensions, but we lack Atari experts in the team...

Looking around a little bit it seems we only have HLE of the floppy drive. The real drives have a cpu and some rom and ram on board.

Right, the Atari 8-bit driver is at a very "MESS 2006" level of detail.

First we need to teach pokey to speak low level serial before any of this can start working.

Perhaps Avery Lee (phaeron) of Altirra fame might be able to help? He currently writes the definitive hardware manual describing virtually every aspect of the Atari 8-bit systems, as well as an ACID test for them:

Yes, we are well aware of who has the biggest, uhh, test suite in this area ;-)
