It seems I'm running into some issues with MESS. I also tried Mini vMac and the floppy images from System 6 that do not work in MESS, do work in Mini vMac. I suppose the floppy images for both are the same?
The file that works in Mini vMac makes MESS print:
Code:
Device Floppy Disk [Sony] load failed: Invalid image
I tried it with the latest version from Subversion.

I also tried the pre-made System 6 images now, but while MESS starts, I get a floppy disk with a question mark in it. I tried a raw version of this image as well in Mini vMac, but it doesn't work either then.

Is it possible to get some more information from MESS when it doesn't like an image. I already found that when you specify a path to a file that doesn't actually exist for a floppy, MESS just starts. With a non-existing harddisk file, MESS does give an error though. This seems a bit inconsistent.

For the record, we were able to resolve his floppy disk problem in PM. Unfortunately MESS will reject a file if the extension isn't in the permitted list without even allowing the available formats to vote on it, which sucks.

For the Mac it's looking for .dsk, .img, or .image for raw images and .dc or .dc42 for DiskCopy 4.2 images.

Yes, floppy disks work. I still have a problem with CHDs for hard disks. I tried booting MESS with my own empty CHD and with the System 6 preloaded CHD together with the first two System 6 floppy disks.

The result: System 6 boots from floppy and on the desktop I get 1 'System Tools' floppy and 2 'Utilities 1' floppies.

Without the CHD I get the same result.

So it seems there are some issues in the driver with attaching floppies & harddisks.

Latest SVN fixed the harddisk problem. It's generally a poor idea to use 2 floppies with macse - that machine is unique in all of Mac history in supporting 3 floppy drives, and the emulation doesn't handle it too well. macplus (if you must have classic specs) or maciicx are better choices.

Alright, good to know. I was using macse, because it was suggested on the wiki. I don't really care much which exact model it is.

Harddisks are indeed working again!! Thank you very much!
