Look what the cat dragged in . (And yes, the buyer is emulation-friendly).
Excellent. Something to look forward to :-)
worst...joke...ever...
Six...
It's got a prototype DSB-1 board that even that System16 has never heard of. That's gotta count for something (I mean, besides counting for "we can't support it in MAME because MPEG is patented from here to infinity").
Does this mean sound in M1 for this game?
Plus, it means one more step towards 100% emulation of this in MAME (hopes for sound in the attract mode for 0.83u1

No, the mame-friendly guy who bought the game did so at the RB's request so as to hoard the boardset and make sure that the game's sound is never emulated due to a lack of a dump.
So finally m1 will play John Williams music. Cool. Hope the same will happen with SWT sound board.
Does this also mean sound in 0.82u1 (or whatever it happens to be)?
edit:
Didnt see the bit about it being MPEG and therefore not mameable.
/me hopes that anyone who was involved with the patenting of MPEG or with the laws that made such a stupid lame patent possible burns in hell for all eternity (wait, no, hell has just frozen over with the discovery of a dumpable modelx SW sound board so put them in something that would acutally subject them to eternal pain)
The relevent patents should expire by 2013. Why not just make an unoffical DIFF patch in the mean time.
well, i hope Elsemi make a NebulaM1
Why in god's name would you think such an utterly baseless thought with absolutely no grounding in reality, especially when Model 1 is already emulated in MAME, and there's no chance in hell that ElSemi could emulate it an better than it already has been?

m1 jedi
m1 starwars
m1 stwr_103
m1 superman
m1 ij_l7
m1 indytemp
m1 jupk_513

ElSemi has much better things to do, like make an OpenGL version of NebulaM2 so I can port it ;-)
And Six, nice job.
Or just use the MPEG in mame anyway.
There are many projects out there using MPEG without a patent licence and I dont see them being sued by the MPEG people...
MAME is much higher profile than most projects, and we don't wish to provide anyone with a handy totally legal way to shut it down (given that there are now 2 court cases setting the precident that emulation itself is legal unfriendly companies will need to find alternate routes).
heh, good point
Two court cases over emulation and the legalness of it? Don't lawyers have better things to do, maybe chase ambulances?
Maybe, it's just late, and I can't think straight, but are you saying that the sound board is MPEG?
Please be more cryptic
It has two sound boards: a regular Model 1 one (presumably for voices and sound effects) and an MPEG board (for music).
And the legal controversy means that there will not be any dump of sound / voice & effects ever ?
Of course there will be a dump, emulation in mame is another matter though,
Six...
MAME will have sound but no music. M1 will have both.
What about decompressing the music tracks, and then HLE the mpeg chip. If you leave the decompression out of the emulation there should be no patent problem.
Right, but then we expose ROM sites (or whoever puts up the kajillion megs of downloads) to RIAA problems.
Your planning to support it in M1 right why not add an option to decompress the music tracks to files.
No. MAME is not going to support the music. End of discussion.
