About a month ago I mentioned I was going to start a new "scaled-down" MacMAME project. I was inspired to do so after coming across a website called minimame.com.

I thought it was a great idea. Only his design wasn't as "finished" as I would have liked (i.e. no marquee, no plexiglass, etc., etc.). So I drew up my own plans from scratch to meet my needs.

It's now finished. Since it's powered by a 266Mhz G3, I thought I'd share it with you guys.

Very nice.

Try just posting the pictures of yourself with the cabinet if you want to convince people you are extremely tall. laugh

Nice work. I like your custom marquee artwork.

Nice job.

That is REALLY nice - good work.

So many mame cabs can look so crap due to dozens of buttons everywhere and ridiculous clutter. This on the other hand, even with the spinner and the extra button (a whole two!!) is so cool.

Me: sick (With jealousy, not from something I ate)

Add on a couple more buttons, the cabinet would be perfect.

Awesome. Color me insanely jealous... I just keep telling myself one of these days, one of these days.

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback. It's nice to know there are people out there that appreciate this kind of "obsessive compulsion". I literally couldn't focus on much else for the past month.

Now that it's done, I've been able to sit down and enjoy my creation. I'm really getting back into these old classics. Of course there are the tried and true games like Pac-Man, Frogger, Dig-Dug, etc. But many of the "lesser knowns" I am discovering for the first time (and having great fun with!) like Pooyan, Mappy, Ladybug, and so on...

I'd love to hear what other peoples favorite games are that meet the criteria for my "little" machine (as I'm sure there are several I'm unaware of). The "criteria" is as follows:

て「Vertical orientation
て「Older than 1985 (or at least run off older hardware),
て「No diagonals,
て「No more than one "action" button (or two for a "future" set-up)
て「MacMAME .36a compatible

Thanks again everyone. I will be posting a new thread with some questions relating to my "classic" set-up. I'll do my best to poke around the "archives" first... stay tuned wink

Pooyan and Ladybug aren't obscure!!! 2 of my alltime faves!

Ok, so, I've compiled a list of some of my favorite 2 way/4 way games that I've put into a "group by" file for a custom lap 4way controller I built. (gutted a Logitech flight-stick with a fat base andv put an eBay'd 4 way joystick in it wired to the hat stick buttons - freaking fun!)... Here's a few you might try (some like PANG will be tough for the 266...)

Sweet! Thanks for taking the time to put together a list smile

A few seem to be Horizontal though (like Moonpatrol and Popeye... which do happen to get regular play on my bigger cabinet).

I'll "filter" those out from the list and check out the rest!

Yeah, that's just my generic list... didn't do orientation. Also, I have 2 buttons, so you might need to map player 2 for a couple... smile

And, put kickman on there for the trackball!

How do you tell OS9 to be vertical?

I managed the vertical orientation with the help of an extension called MacPortrait. After much trial and error, it runs flawlessly.

In the beginning, I was experiencing several extension conflicts. Even with just OS 9's "base" extensions on. The two major ones being the CD Drive and Ethernet extensions.

I basically stripped the machines extensions to the BARE minimum it needs to do the job I want it to. Not really practical if your doing anything more than playing vertical games, but I'm not... so it's perfect! Lean and mean!!!
