Heh, no. The current Xbox is what we'd call "sub-ghetto hardware" on mame.net (it's a Celeron 733, to be precise). It'll run most CPS2 and Neo Geo games OK (the 64 megs of RAM can be an issue on the newer, larger games), but not e.g. Mortal Kombat or Power Drift.

Richard: It's not prohibited in and of itself, but since it involves circumventing protection mechanisms the EUCD would come into play.

That's a relief! I've spent months trying to get MAME to run on an unmodified Atari 2600, and I'd hate to think all of that effort went to waste!

(For what it's worth, the biggest headache has been stuffing an entire PC into the little plastic cartridge.)

Damn! Ah well...Thanks for your technicial info Mr. Belmont. Forgive my naivete...I represent the users here. Advanced user, but still a user...although I DID program some games in BASIC at computer camp back in 1988! Yee-ha! And they had a Vectrex at that camp too.

Well, my fiancee is having some items shipped here that have been in storage next week. Included will be a Gateway that oughta run the couple games I've been waiting to play....like powerdriftpowerdriftpowerdrift...haha

I have a working Vectrex. There's nothing quite like a real vector monitor, and MESS is totally missing the rather loud 60 Hz "chatter" it puts out too :-)

The box contains a description of what you are or aren't allowed to do regarding reverse engineering or running unauthorised code, if you want to do those things but don't want to break the law by doing those things then you should return the console to the shop for a full refund.

If Irish law contains the clueless get out clause ( i.e. you can run away from any small print by putting your hands over your ears and shouting LA LA LA ) then you might be allowed.

As long as you don't break the DMCA/EUCD in the process, which you will.
