Any good C books or emulator design docs?
I would like to learn C in order to add Plug-in support to MESSfor the followingCD-based machines to )
PS-One
3do
cdi
cdtv
cd32
segacd
saturn
psx
apple2gs
at386
pcecd
I feel that if MESS allowed the use of existing plugins for CD Drivers(PS-PRo for PSX, etc), then we cou;d overstep MAME's CD-support by using these plugins. Also, we and 3rd people could add alternate hardware support(eg, SCSI\SASI interface, Saturn GFX, S-100 Bus(if needed), etc.

nope...

no plugin for mess exactly as for mame... here the goal is emulate a computer/console as it was conceived, not add special effects or anything else

moreover it would be a hell to make such a structure portable on every platform...

MAME has perfectly good CD support (and in 0.95 it got a heck of a lot better) using .CHD files. I expect CD systems in MESS to follow a similar path (I'm working on Saturn off and on and Mariusz is working on Amiga CD32 for a related MAME system).

Cool. It's nice to know MESS is tackling this.

mritchi: Leaning C is good way to start getting into emulation. One book for beginners with very positive reviews is on Amazon here , and for a reference book I always preferred this to the usual K&R book.

If you need further convincing, heed some words of wisdom . ;-)

Hey K&R C is the BEST! smile I still got my copy of the little white book with the blue lettering that I stole from a Library(Well, not exactly stole, I checked it out and never returned it, but I was working at the library at the time so I consider it a Bennifit, besides I orderd 2 more to make up for it). I used that book and Power C on the C-64 to get started. Of course then went into ML for more speed. But Power C was way better than BASIC. Oh well, /end rant. smile BTW: I still have my power C disks for the C-64 if anyone is interested I'll make some .d64 dumps.
