all other versions of mame that ive used have supported the ability to switch which region bios files you launch a neogeo game with, is this option available in mame os x? i can't seem to find it anywhere.

Use the Japanese-region BIOS.

the reason i ask is that when you load magical drop 3 with japanese bios it has more features, including harder difficulty. it's sort of hilarious that they made the same exact romset easier depending on what region cabinet or system you play the game in.

there no way to circumvent the issue through the mame tab or tilde menu? frown

i hope future versions of mame os x add support for it as it's the prettiest mame ive used.

If you really want the ability to select a BIOS file just ask Dave to add it. Hopefully, you'll get the feature eventually.

I think there's a way to play MG3 in Japanese mode. I think you rename the Japanese BIOS files and use that replace one of the files in neogeo.zip.

Remember Super Mario Brothers 2, where non-Japan got an entirely different game because the original was too hard? smile

That's not quite fair. The original SMB2 was an FDS game, and allowed saving at almost any point, so they could get away with making it stupid hard because you could just keep going back to your last save point. Gaijin were never allowed to have to FDS, and a cartridge version of SMB2 was considered too hard for Japan, too.

did you attempt to open the Terminal and type in:

defaults write net.mame.mameosx Bios -string japan

...then press Return.

i believe this is the only way to switch BIOS regions. it worked for me, nevertheless.
