question about SDLMAME
my friend is trying to get it working- he has a macbook with leopard

xcode is installed
he followed the rules up to the make targetos=macosx part
and it says theres no makefile
so hes trying to find a makefile

"- Install SDL
Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL, and 2D video framebuffer. It is used by MPEG playback software, emulators, and many popular games, including the award winning Linux port of "Civilization: Call To Power."
Go to http://www.libsdl.org/ , and click the "SDL 1.2" download link in the sidebar, then scroll down to "Mac OS X" under "Runtime Libraries". Download the "SDL-1.2.13.dmg" disk image and open it.
Click 'Macintosh HD' (or whatever your Mac's hard disk is named) in the left pane of a Finder window, then open the Library folder and drag the SDL.framework folder from the SDL disk image into the 'Frameworks' folder.
thats the step
i did all that
then i exctracted SDLmame
went to the terminal
typed in all taht shit and it says theres no target or makefile"

Are the problems deeper than this? Any ideas on what to do?

I'd appreciate any help!

Did you cd to the right directory before you typed make?

You have to open a terminal window, type "cd" <space> then drag the icon of the extracted sdlmame folder onto the terminal window, then make sure the terminal window is active and hit <return>. Then type "make TARGETOS=macosx" and hit <return>. (You don't type the quotes, they've just there to delimit stuff.)

which suggests you're not in the right directory. Quoting from the walkthrough:

This changes the directory path to the SDLMAME folder.

Now we're about to begin the compiling process.

I think this is the part that's gone wrong. Oh, and it's slightly misleading - "cd" must be in lowercase for it to work.

type ls and hit return. is there actually a file called makefile in that directory? the directory sdlmame is extracted to is usually called something like sdlmame0127u2 (with the version number in the name).

Well, it DOES say "... and no makefile found" in the screenshot, so it's definitely not the right directory smile.

It's possible he's downloaded a package containing pre-compiled binaries and doesn't realise.
