I have a PlayStation 2 DualShock controller hooked up to my MBP using a PS2-to-USB adapter. I just installed MAME OS X and downloaded the Robotron ROM. Robotron runs fine and responds to keyboard input (ESDF for movement, IJKL for firing).

But I can't get the DualShock controller to work. It's as if it's not there. I know the controller is active and working, because USB Overdrive will map the left joystick to ESDF and I can use the left joystick to type ESEFSEFSEFSEFSDFSEFEFSE into TextEdit.

But I can't get it to work within MAME OS X. Enable Joystick is checked in Preferences, and I've tried both USB ports.

Any clues or pointers to try?

I was having similar problems with controller issues and I believe I read somewhere that USB overdrive "breaks" MAME OS X.

1. Try disabling USB Overdrive and see if it works.

or

2. Try enabling USB Overdrive and map the joystick to the appropriate keyboard keys, but uncheck the "Enable Joystick" in the MAME OS X Preferences.

If neither of these things work I believe you may be out of luck.

Try SDLMAME.

I own a couple of different PSX controller to USB adapters and have had more luck with SDLMAME than MAME OSX.

I've compiled and uploaded a .134 OSX Intel binary here:
