silly question. love the emulator. been blasting through my old atari 5200 collection after a good 25 year hiatus. i'm having a problem though. the analog sensitivity is much too high. none of the "analog controls" settings "the ones available when i hit the 'tab' key" seem to make any difference, neither do the joystick settings listed in teh controller tab in properties for atari.c. what exactly am i doing wrong? playing classic super breakout is simply impossible as it is. is there a hidden analog sensitivity setting somewhere that actually works?

What type of real controller are you using? Game pad? Analog joystick? Mouse? Keyboard? Let me know and I'll try it out with the same (or similar) controller type and see what I can come up with...

You're probably doing something wrong that apparently a huge number of MAME and MESS users do wrong...
For every emulated analog axis, MAME/MESS lets you assign three controls: "(foo) Analog", "(foo) Inc", and "(foo) Dec". If you have a real analog input device (such as a thumbstick), assign it to "(foo) Analog" only. Do not assign it to "(foo) Inc" and/or "(foo) Dec". Those are for simulating an analog input with a keyboard.

Nope still no joy
The problem is it doesn't re-centre when you release the analogue stick

Err, recentering is a function of the stick itself, not software.

Yes, what I mean is the stick re-centres but the Atari does not respond to that and the Atari is too sensitive so the slightest touch of the stick sends the bat (Super Breakout) to either the left or right edge of the screen.
has anybody tried the Atari 5200 with Super-Breakout and been able to play it with an analogue stick?

Oh. In that case you need to turn down "Analog Sensitivity" and try turning up the "dead zone".

Then it behaves just like a real Atari 5200 contoller If you open up a 5200 contoller, the "joystick" is just 2 pots, one for Left-Right and one for Up-Down, and had no autocentering mechanism.
