On my config, MESS runs a snes game like another world at 80% (not even going to mention super-fx)

On MAME, N64 based games like Cruisn' USA/World run at full speed and vert smoothly

So is MESS slower than MAME and why?

My specs
Win 7 Pro x64
Core2Quad 3.2GHz
2x HD 4870 (crossfire)
DirectX 11

You must have something wrong with your snes configuration - I have a much slower machine and I get 95-100% at title in the game you mentioned and can play the game comfortably with frameskip on.

Crusin' USA/World are not Nintendo 64 based games. Not sure where you got the idea - might have been the hype when the games were released and the whole "Ultra 64" thing (noticeable in Killer Instinct). If you do a -listdevices for both n64 in MESS and crusnusa/crusnwld in MAME, you'll see they are two completely different beasts.

The N64 counterpart in MAME is the aleck64.c driver of games. You'll find they both run similarly slow regardless of any emulator.

Athlon64 X2-4400 cpu with crappy on-board Geforce 6100. Hard to believe that can outperform your snes results..

The "Ultra 64" arcade games are on custom Midway hardware and have nothing at all to do with the N64, marketing aside. Killer Instinct doesn't have polygon hardware, and Crusin' USA/World have a 32-bit CPU. So neither the "Ultra" nor the "64" apply ;-)

The correct comparison is SNES games in MESS vs. the Nintendo Super System games in MAME, which are the same games on the same hardware.
