Something seems to have happened with the chdman compression between u7 and u8. Recompressing some segacd/psx chd's with the u8 version of chdman gave me ~3-5% worse compression than I had with the u7 version of chdman. That said the new version (u8) was _alot_ faster at compressing/decompressing. Yeah I know, 3-5% isn't exactly a huge deal, I was merely curious.

There was no change to anything but the LD codec between u7 and u8, so you must be using different settings or something.

Weird, I used the Arch Linux sdlmame packages (u7, u8 respectively) and the chdman binaries contained therein. As for settings, what would those be? What I did was extract some segacd/psx chd's I had:
chdman extractcd -i foo.chd -o foo.cue
and then compress them again using the u7,u8 chdman versions
chdman createcd -i foo.cue -o foo.chd

Aaron turned off the huffman on CD images by default at some point, maybe that's what you're noticing?

That wasn't between u7 and u8 though, that was earlier. Maybe the Arch packager shipped the wrong chdman with u7.

Yes, I think it's most likely something the packager did, you guys would know if there'd been any changes affecting cd compression.
