I'm totally fine with the discussion as it's been going, actually. As long as people want to toss around logos and names and stuff and not come down like a ton of boring bricks with serious discussion of the future of the project(s) it's all good.

(PS: everyone knows "classic MAME" would be a 0.106 build that someone keeps working with current compilers, and "classic MESS" would be a binary that doesn't actually run anything ;-)

I know you're just being a bit heavy on the hyperbole, RB, but you gotta admit that even in the worst of times for MESS, the CoCo driver was in remarkably good shape.

Sorry to hijack this thread to ask if one of you fellow designers was interested in doing the long overdue logo BootGod is awaiting for for NES Cart Database. Just look the amount of documentation work he produced, and nobody willing to give back? For real? If I could do something original I would but all I know is how to rip and edit.

Here's an alternate version of the proposed new UME logo from JacKc which is actually similar to the "original" one:

And regarding the NES Cart Database, JacKc also sent me a proposed logo:

@ReadOnly: Jackc asked me to give you his email address in case you want to contact him, but you can also look it up here: http://qmc2.arcadehits.net/wordpress/about/#JacKc (Jacques Châtelet)

PS: I'm more or less just the relay station for the logo posts right now and I can live with that for a while wink , but whoever is capable of contacting Richard about approving JacKc's account (or can do this instead of him?!), I'd greatly appreciate that smile!

The high-res version of the alternate UME logo shows that the "U" is not exactly aligned (vertically) with "ME".

Personally, I like it *thumbsup*
Going to message BootGod about it. And going to message Jack too.
It is almost the same font as the one used in Nintendo logo.

I'll go ahead and relay the same thing that happened last time someone was having trouble getting their account approved: make sure they follow the instructions and email Richard to prove they aren't the silk wigs spambot smile

Also, that last version of the UME is my favorite yet (in particular, the font for "UNIVERSAL MACHINE EMULATOR" finally looks really good). Could he do a version where the slant of the "E" is in front of the "M"?

I still find that U very freaky-looking:
- the upright parts of the U seem to taper
- there's no angular "curve" part in bottom-right
- the two upright parts of the U need to be further apart, closer to the letter thickness of the M or E

I am hardly an aesthetic critic though, so...

The above UME logo has been updated (corrected), and here's a second alternative from JacKc according to RB's suggestions:
