I see. I understood what you wrote before, I know you can add the background as an overlay and I saw your zip file containing it. What I did not understand is how you generated that .lay file with all that coordinates. Did you have to do all that manually, sprite by sprite, position by position? Or that Svg2lay program you mentioned did the majority of the work for you?

Regarding DK II external artwork (case) I said I just need to find a proper image to redo my current vector, I'm not asking for help on vectoring it. I just need someone to give me a scan of the device itself or a better quality image (if anyone around here do have this unit in the first place) otherwise I suppose we will have to stick to the current vector I submitted already.

I could scan it sometime this week. I haven't even reassembled it yet.

The one for DJ101 was autogenerated with svg2lay.
The Tiger Sonic one is just a test, the background scaling is completely wrong.

Out of curiousity, what are you going to do with your handheld collection?

Yeah, I was hoping maybe just dumping the chips and photographing the VFD and circuit board would be enough to just have them archived and ready...

I've sold the whole collection to a museum. They are picking it up in Sept or Oct... smile

To clarify, by tracing I mean probing the pins and document the row/column for each segment. If the game is very linear/predictable, it's possible to do this manually(I've done this for a few handhelds, including some Nintendo G&W). But plenty games are too complex for this.

Graphically tracing for creating vector art can of course be done later.

Sorry, I was out for the eclipse: http://seanriddledecap.blogspot.com/2017/08/blog-post.html

I've never electronically dumped any Hitachi or NEC chips, and I haven't found any docs about doing it. IIRC, it's similar to the SM51x, where you set a test mode that dumps a page, and you have to force opcodes to select pages.

Unfortunately, I'm busy with work until mid-November....

Thanks for your scan JonasP. It is somewhat useful but it would be better to scan the whole piece together with the buttons and external case in place. From this one, I can save the top/bottom logos and the side panels from the bottom half part of the game, the rest is uselesss the way it is. But thank you anyway smile

Ok, I can't lay it flat when attached to the case but I'll give it a shot later.
