Absolutely. This is a real quantum leap in preserving the games.

Weirdly, what I find most interesting about this whole thing is that all of the relevant source files are BSD-3-Clause.

So if Nintendo were so inclined, they could make a commercial re-release of all of their Game & Watch titles, using MAME, once we've got them all taken care of. I think that's pretty cool.

What MAME is doing with these high resolution artworks and svgs is leagues ahead.

Well I don't think we want to disregard MADrigal who lead the way... but it's certainly surpassed it (in MAMEdev's eyes at least) with accurate emulation, not reverse-engineered gameplay.

Game & Watch: Helmet has now been preserved in MAME smile

This game is SM5A based and looks like this:

Uploaded Helmet and updated the other silver series games a little, I reconfigured the order of the backgrounds. Doubt anyone will notice much.

I don't think he did all the games tho, I don't see videos of a Vermin from him at least (which is why I didn't post one of his in this instance, I did look) and even then a lot of his work is fairly low resolution.

They were nice tributes to the games, unofficial ports, but very much not the original code.

There's a fair chance that MAME is going to have full emulation of all of these within the next year or two, and that is amazing to me (and like Moogly, I really do hope Nintendo find a way to use our BSD licensed code for something official - a complete, fully emulated G&W anniversary collection would be a worthy addition to any console library)

Correct, Vermin was only available in Nintendo's Game & Watch Collections until now: http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Game_%26_Watch#Games

Forgot to say before, I love what Madrigal did and others with their simulations, it's really impressive to me, but I hope this didn't kill his hobby or anything. I wonder what he thinks of the emulations.

Back when kevris and Rik and I were adding those VFD games, someone asked him, and he liked it.

Wow... coming along quickly... thank you to both you and hydef.

Regarding an earlier comment you had, about certain melody ROMs being incorrect, you have my permission to "destroy" any of the games I sent in, if needed to help with that.

(Though... if possible, it would be nice to get Mario the Juggler back in one piece if still possible... that was the nicest one of the bunch).

RELAX and just have fun.
Remember, it's all about the games. smile
