Experiments in PCI land [O. Galibert]

Fixed an annoying inconsistency between memory_share and memory_region:
the width() method of the former returned the width in bits (8, 16, 32 or 64)
while the width() method of the latter returned the width in bytes
(1, 2, 4 or 8). Now both classes have a bitwidth() method and a bytewidth()
method. Updated all callers to use whichever one was more appropriate.
Also removed the implicit-cast-to-any-integer-pointer of memory_regions,
which was rather unsafe (if you weren't careful with your * operators and
casts it was easy to accidentally get a pointer to the memory_region object
itself instead of to the data, with no warning from the compiler... or at
least I kept doing it) Updated all devices and drivers that were accessing
regions that way to use a region_ptr_finder when possible, and otherwise to
call base() explicitly. [Alex Jackson]

The tilemap system now respects gfx_element::total_colors(). Fixed various

used in tilemaps [Alex Jackson]

Correct sound rom for 'tturf' (Tough Turf (set 2, Japan, 8751 317-0104)) [ShouTime]

Added region_ptr_finder, which works like shared_ptr_finder except it
finds a ROM region instead of a memory share. Unlike the already
existing memory_region_finder, these can be accessed without
any overhead (since it's a pointer directly to the data and not
to the memory_region object), can be whatever data type you want
with no casting needed, and are strictly type-checked--if you have
a required_region_ptr<UINT32> the region has to be a ROM_REGION32
(or an implicitly 32-bit region due to belonging to a device with
a 32-bit bus) or the finder won't find it and will tell you why.
Basically, region_ptr_finders are strictly better than
memory_region_finders and all drivers using the latter should be
converted over [Alex Jackson]

Converted many sound devices to use a required_region_ptr to find their
sample ROMs instead of looking up the region manually in device_start().
Note that this means that you can no longer get away with having e.g. an
OKIM6376 without a ROM (as several slot machine skeleton drivers did);
MAME will now complain at startup about the missing region, instead of
just crashing the first time the chip tries to play a sound like it did
before [Alex Jackson]

twin16: Convert the scrolling layers to tilemaps (the fixed text
layer was already one). Miscellaneous cleanups/modernizations [Alex Jackson]

Don't execute a timeslice before loading a savestate from the command line
[Alex Jackson]

supduck.c: Fill in Lives, Demo Sounds and Game Sound dipswitches as well as add
dipswitch locations. [Brian Troha]

Capcom updates: [any]
- Fixed some incorrect info about the SF2 bootlegs and got them running better.
- Dumped 8571 MCU from a bootleg Top Secret/Bionic Commando PCB.

linescroll RAM"; fixes Lethal Enforcers save states [Alex Jackson]

is always initialised.

As for OSX 10.5.8 PowerPC I have succesfully compiled the new 0.156 release, the tricky part was to set a SDL2 framework the system would be happy with.
Here is what I have done:

- Download the nice game BitFighter OSX version Universal 32 bit from the official site.
- Open the bundle binary with the usual "Show Package Contents" right-click mouse action
- Reach the "A" folder in SDL2 Framework and copy the SDL2 binary (the little black icon) on the desktop
- Close the bundle window
- Download from the SDL official site the SDL2 framework version 2.0.3 for OSX (the intel binary, the only available), open the DMG and copy the SDL.framework on the desktop
- Close the DMG window
- Open the SDL2.framework and reach again the "A" folder inside
- Copy the SDL2 binary extracted from Bitfighter inside this folder, replacing in this way the exixting SDL2 intel binary
- Put the whole SDL2.framework folder in yout System/Library/Frameworks and you're done.

This mixture is good enough to allow SDLMame 0.156 to be built under OSX 10.5.8 PPC (and working too), remember that you have to set the GCC compiler to 4.2 before and to use the linker from MacPorts installation.

Under Micko's leadership, he's wanting us to get to a monthly release schedule again. So the next one won't be until towards the end of December. Still, that's quicker than in months past.
See for verification.

There are even FORUMS at the new website! (The general plan for the new site seems to be "let's make it a bit more like the old 2004-era instead of the old 2009-era")

Yes, there's Mac binaries. But like other platforms they are "command-line" aka Terminal (as far as I know). They're also not coming directly from though (yet?). Basically, we're advertising for free the work of packagers on Mac and multiple flavors of Linux. (Don't let us down, guys! laugh ) If you click the Apple logo, it will take you to the following MAMEDev wiki page:
which lists all the Linux-flavor OS's and Mac as well and their respective packages and packagers. We've even linked the Google Native Client build and the old Yellow Dog Linux/Playstation 3 build. smile

Inspired by this, I'm half-tempted to do a "really old MAME" wiki page linking to ALL the platforms on which you could, at one time, find MAME - anything from the Amiga and Amiga Research OS (AROS) to the Kodak Digita camera OS. laugh

Honestly, I've been feeling way more energized and positive towards the project than in months past. Feels like it's all "clicking" once again. smile

Awww I miss MacMAME hehehe..

Well damn.. I updated everything that day I made my post above, but just NOW got a chance to sit and play some MAME and realized, those 64 bit Mac builds dont work on anything below 10.9.5!!! My fault for not reading the website, but basically theyre worthless to alot of Mac users unless you wanna use the last versions 32 bit binary..

Still rolling our own like always!!
