Noticed some traffic on my page and came back to this thread Yes, I'm still offering to help with this. I own 2 DVD-N504 players and could run some tools/tests on them or even ship one of the mainboard to a dumper. In 2015 I discussed it with Guru, but there wasn't much value at that time: I found the NUON is partially documented here.... http://console5.com/wiki/DVD-N501there are a few nasty chips probably containing ROM. particularly the TMP91C219F (MIC1) others like SIC1, NIC1, VIC1 etc are custom chips/DSPs etc I personally think it's a waste of time and money for you to get it dumped. I doubt it'll ever work in an emulator because of all the other custom chips and missing microcontroller rom (MIC1) and that DSP (SIC1)

We know pretty much all of that is not correct now. The TMP91C219F has external ROM so the firmware can be upgraded, the NIC1 is the Nuon CPU with no internal ROM, SIC1 isn't programmable, it's the DVD controller, and VIC1 is an off-the-shelf NTSC/PAL video encoder.

Great news.
Don't mean to sidetrack but I also notice you have a Hyperscan with its RFID cards, odd system. Does anybody know how we should dump these? Will any RFID reader work?

I actually tried that some time ago with a chinese reader and SDK. Couldn't go past the protection though (can't find the source/documentation anymore).

If you're interested in getting it dumped these days it would probably make more sense to contact somebody from The Dumping Union rather than Guru, because Guru isn't really working with the team much these days.

There's a boot rom in the Nuon actually. Looks like we probably can live without though. As far as I can tell, it copies somehting like 128 bytes of the flash to internal ram (e.g. 0xf0000000 to 0x20300000) then jumps to it. Nothing spectacular :-) OG.

rosewood, do you happen to own any Nuon games? Next Tetris and the hyper rare crayon shin-chan games are still undumped. There are seems to be 2 different versions of Iron Soldier 3 one labeled as demo and the one not, but I'm not certain if there is any actual difference between the 2 of them.

Can't help you with these. IIRC, The Next Tetris is on the dumped Toshiba Sampler.

Either way a dump of the actual disc is still needed. checksums matched on these, they are the same Are you 100% sure that both discs were dumped? What sources are you referring to? The Trurip demo vs the other not marked as a demo from that old Nuon set that's been available for years? My doubt is to be sure to which disc that one refers to.
