I just installed El Capitan on my 2012 iMac. QMC2 opens fine but when I try to run a game I just get a black screen. The game has loaded though as I can here some sounds, like coin drop etc. when I press the relevant buttons on my stick.

Everything was working perfectly on Mountain Lion before.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

What makes you think it's a QMC2 issue? Does MAME run fine from command line? (i.e. using the command that's logged in QMC2)

If it's still an SDL 1.2 version of MAME (i.e., from prior to this year) you probably need to upgrade your installed SDL.framework to 1.2.15. (Or, just upgrade MAME itself to latest and install SDL2.framework instead).

Thank you for the replies. I have never run MAME from command line and am not sure what to do for this. I will probably just install new SDL framework and MAME as suggested above as it is quite an old iteration I am using.

One thing I found though, someone with the same problem running MAME OSX fixed it by doing this...

"Go to the menu MAME OS X -> Preferences and select the Video tab.
Then in the video options, near the bottom there are Rendering Options. Change the dropdown for 'Render Frames Using:' from automatic, to Open GL."

Here is the original thread this fix is from...

Is there a option in QMC2 that would do the same thing? I do have video setting set to Open GL, not sure if this is the same thing though? Cheers.

QMC2 lets you change every single option the emulator has to offer, including "-video". There's an "opengl" value as well, but for modern MAME / SDL2 "accel" is recommended!

See our wiki for details on where to set the options.

Been quite a while since I posted this thread but a quick update to give some info to others in this situation... Did a bit more fiddling around to no avail so a fresh install of the latest 64 bit SDL mame, SDL2 framework and the latest QMC2 worked on El Capitan with no issues. Now I just need to massively update my rom set... Cheers all!

Glad to hear that - and w.r.t. massively updating your ROMs... well, QMC2 can help you here, too smile.
