Forgive me if this post is misplaced. I have a very rare and hard to acquire mask ROM from an NEC 7811 (uPD7811) CPU for an Akai AX80 synthesizer and thought some people here might be interested in it.

Since MAME/MESS has some basic support for that CPU series, someone might be able to create something out of these, I don't know...

CPU mask ROM:

Program EPROM (Revision K):
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B44NKm9yPA1bOVdnWHJILWN1M2c

I've already examined these in quite some detail, if anyone has any questions.

Awesome, thank you!

Service manual is here: https://ia800500.us.archive.org/25/items/AkaiAX80ServiceManual/Akai%20AX80%20Service%20Manual.pdf

Looks like an 8-voice polysynth with CEM chips. Peripheral ICs are 8253 PIT, 8255 PPI, and 8279 keyboard/display controller.

I've committed a preliminary skeleton, thanks again!

Is it possible to get the internal program for the IC1 "key assigner" CPU also? It just reads the keyboard matrix and sends the data to the second CPU so it's probably not critical, but it would be nice smile

Are synthesizers added to MAME now? If so I've dumped the rom of my old Casio MT-540, if it can be put to any use.

Yes, any device that has a CPU of any kind MAME is interested in emulating.

Synths, Car Computers, Microwaves, Vending Machines, you name it, MAME can provide a nice place to emulate the code and simulate / study the behaviour of the rest of the system.

Yup. Here's a short sample from 3 years ago smile

There's ROMs and complete reverse-engineered documentation for a Z80-based credit card swipe machine that was common in the 1990s on Big Mess Of Wires' site that I've occasionally steered people to but I may end up having to write the damn driver myself.

If you absolutely must waste your time and bloat MAME with drivers absolutely nobody will ever have any practical use for, ever, at least consider making it trivial to skip them at compilation time.
