What happened to mess.org

www.mess.org used to host the multi emulator super system website, however that project merged with MAME back in 2015.

Since the domain is no longer important to the project, I’ve reclaimed it for my own purposes, that of the maintainership of rc-core in the linux kernel.

Code
<hap> mess.org is down?
<duke_> looks like sean pointed the domain back to his server
<duke_> http://www.mess.org/2017/12/17/What-happened-to-mess-org/
<duke_> add 188.68.53.5 to your hosts file to access it
<Tafoid> so, the content?
<Tafoid> still there?
<duke_> sure, it's on my server
<Tafoid> oh ok

Seems the MESS dumping project page I was maintaining in the wiki is gone then. If you (duke) still have the content I would be interested on a copy of the latest version (talking about this one: https://www.mess.org/dumping/games_needed).
Moving this page somewhere else was brought many times exactly due to this eventually happening, but it seems no one cared about it so it was kept in mess.org.

It's not gone, Duke has a full backup.

Since he was the actual host, it's still live. As he says, add "188.68.53.5 www.mess.org" to your hosts file and you can still access everything.

I would wager that mess.redump.net will be coming back in the interim, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

redump.net is a decent domain name for anything Dumping Project, in my opinion laugh

I would hope the Undumped Wiki could take over that list.

The Undumped Wiki can - that old mess.org page probably shouldn't be moved to mamedev.org - but we were asked by emulab.it to move out, several months ago. Probably moving to redump.net, incidentally, unless we get a better offer.

Got it, thanks Stiletto. Whenever someone figures if the page should be moved and to where let me know and I'll move it, until then at least I have the latest version saved locally. That Undumped wiki is completely arcade focused so a new structure would be needed.

The artwork page seems to be gone, can't seem to be able to reach that URL.

Former mess.org content is now back online at http://mess.redump.net/.

If you made the HOSTS file change, comment it out or delete it, and clear your browser cache.
