Actually my question applies to any of the nes/snes softlists that aren't the cart software list - nes_ade, nes_ntbrom, nes_kstudio, nes_datach, snes_bspack, snes_strom, snes_vkun.

Say I wish to load Dizzy The Adventurer from nes_ade, dizzyadv - what command line will achieve that? If I then MAME recognises the softlist name, but takes me to the cart load screen

Runner up question: say I wish to load fntdizzy from nes_ade instead, which has a name conflict with the standard nes cart softlist game. How would I do that via command line?

you need to first load the aladdin deck enhancer (ADE), and then mount dizzy in the (now available) cartslot2 which corresponds to the ADE slot. summing up

great thanks very much! I see the principle is the same with all the other softlists I quoted (in each case I had to work out the 'cart1' name by guesswork, but it was easy enough)

actaully, there are two of the softlists I quoted above which don't seem to respond to a 'cart first' call. If I call:

`mame64.exe snes -cart bsx -cart2 tablgmbs`

or

`mame\mame64.exe nes -cart ntb -cart2 ntb_91`

i get "unknown option: cart2"

If I attempt to load these via the softlist menu from mame's own UI, the lists are empty. For example:
* launch mame
* type 'super nintendo' to filter to that system and select it
* click 'software list' on the left hand sidebar
* select 'Nintendo SNES Satellaview Memory Packs'

is it possible to load any of the games from either of these softlists?

You should be able to use both via command line at least:

mame64 snes bsxsore -cart2 bszelda3
mame64 nes nantbb -cart2 ntb_91

Currently via the UI, you can mount the master cart via system ->softlist entry then use File Manager -> Cart2 -> Software List -> Confirm Softlist -> select addon wanted -> Reset
Just note that support for many of these extender cartridges is partial (EG: bsxsore) so compatibility is not that good.

then some work on MAME options has broken support for these subslots. The command you used are the official ones (and the one mentioned by Tafoid shall work as well) and if they don't work you shall report it to MAMETesters.
