I bought some more games:
Entex Soccer: TMS1000NL MP0158 MS^7923
Super Sports-4: MP1219 MSL ^8014
ELECsonic Football: MP0170 MSL ^7936
Conic Football 2: MP1181 MSL ^7945
Conic Basketball: MP0168 MSL ^7949
Coleco Bowlatronic: TMS1100NLL M34014-N2 WES 8109

Coleco Head-to-Head Basketball: COP420L-NMY/N
Mattel Invisible Alien Neutralizer: COP410L GZW
Mattel Basketball 2: 2x COP420L NMP and NMQ

NSC Quiz Kid Racer: MM4799 DUZ
Mattel Soccer: MM4799 NFR

That makes 4 MM4799s so far, and I bet Mattel Hockey also uses it. I'm hopeful that Quiz Kid Racer has similar ROM contents as patent US4051605. That patent looks like it's for the same calculator, but you could connect 2 of them together to compete, and the actual calculator doesn't have any connectors.

I've also got Talking Computron and Parker Bros Lost Treasure coming.

Talking Computron: hmm, I'm going to guess 2nd-gen TI speech chip.
This one is ELECsonic Football? http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Misc/ERSFootball1P.htm

Also, this just in, hot from the presses, exclamation marks!! MAME 0.170 is out http://mamedev.org/
From the top of my head, new additions related to this thread are: TI 1200/1250, Speak&Spell Compact, Speak&Spell 1979 version.

I didn't even need the microscope to figure out the die in Mattel Basketball 2:

I guess they added a 2nd metal layer to obscure the ROM array from easy visual dumping.

I found a picture of the "competition" version of Quiz Kid Racer: http://www.efdevicepebbles.com/quiz-kid-racer-vintage-i415693/

You can see the connectors on the right side of the calculators, as well as the cable. The patent says the units can be used separately in non-competition mode, which makes me think that the unit I bought without the connector likely uses the same ROM image; since you can't plug in a cable, it would always work in non-competition mode.

I haven't found any manuals online yet.

I keyed in the ROM from patent US4051605 and visually transcribed the bits from the Quiz Kid Racer die, and the byte histograms match, so it is the same code. Now I'll figure out how to map the bytes.

I uploaded info on the TMS1400 from Coleco Talking Teacher: www.seanriddle.com/tms1400.html and the CD2704B from Speak and Math: www.seanriddle.com/speakandspell.html

Lost Treasure has M34038-N2LL DES 8218.

My Talking Computron is the same as plgDavid's; 2 globs on a daughterboard marked CPU and one glob on a daughterboard marked ROM. The 12 lines to the ROM PCB also go to the cart connector.

I only got the chip for Talking Teacher. I think it came from plgDavid originally.

I posted the TI 2702a info: http://www.seanriddle.com/speakandspell.html

I have one of those talking teachers. I think I dumped the carts for it... I received all/most of the carts and dumped the serial ROMs in the unit if I remember right.

If I didn't, the ROMs are sitting in a box somewhere desoldered.

The LCD is a glop top board with no identifying marks.

There are two major families of K-2-8, the Votrax SC01A based unit which uses TMS roms for text/question data (you dumped these kevtris):

CM62050 1981 Tiger Electronics K-2-8 model 7-230 1/2 16KiB 4bit (inv. CE) Non-TI Speech Chip Yes 6AFB8645
CM62051 1981 Tiger Electronics K-2-8 model 7-230 2/2 16KiB 4bit (inv. CE) Non-TI Speech Chip Yes 0FA61BAA

And The Tiger Electronics K-2-8 model 7-232, which was also OEM'ed to Coleco as the Talking teacher, AND to SEARS as the Talkatron.
These later ones are TMS5110 based, and uses onboard and cartridge VSM's for LPC data. (I wand to make a blog post of the 4 variants at one point)

I dumped a few of those modules, and you dumped a few (hard to track now lol)

CM62086 1987? K-2-8 "Spelling I" Module 16KiB TMS5110A Yes 0349798B
CM62087 1987? K-2-8 "Spelling III" Module 16KiB TMS5110A Yes F2DEB9A2
CM62215 1986 Tiger K-2-8 Expansion Module ?3? 16KiB TMS5110A Yes F2DEB9A2
CM62216 1986 Tiger K-2-8 Expansion Module ?2? 16KiB TMS5110A Yes 1C99306F
CM62217 1986 Tiger K-2-8 Expansion Module 4 16KiB TMS5110A Yes 995936B2
CM62219 1987 Coleco Talking Teacher MODULE 6 16KiB TMS5110A Yes 177B5CB5
