That makes 4 MM4799s so far, and I bet Mattel Hockey also uses it. I'm hopeful that Quiz Kid Racer has similar ROM contents as patent US4051605. That patent looks like it's for the same calculator, but you could connect 2 of them together to compete, and the actual calculator doesn't have any connectors.

I've also got Talking Computron and Parker Bros Lost Treasure coming.

That looks identical except this one says ELECsonic instead of ERS Electronic Readout Systems, Inc.

I didn't even need the microscope to figure out the die in Mattel Basketball 2:


I guess they added a 2nd metal layer to obscure the ROM array from easy visual dumping.

You can see the connectors on the right side of the calculators, as well as the cable. The patent says the units can be used separately in non-competition mode, which makes me think that the unit I bought without the connector likely uses the same ROM image; since you can't plug in a cable, it would always work in non-competition mode.

I haven't found any manuals online yet.

I keyed in the ROM from patent US4051605 and visually transcribed the bits from the Quiz Kid Racer die, and the byte histograms match, so it is the same code. Now I'll figure out how to map the bytes.

Lost Treasure has M34038-N2LL DES 8218.

My Talking Computron is the same as plgDavid's; 2 globs on a daughterboard marked CPU and one glob on a daughterboard marked ROM. The 12 lines to the ROM PCB also go to the cart connector.

What LCD chip is used for the Coleco?

I only got the chip for Talking Teacher. I think it came from plgDavid originally.

I have one of those talking teachers. I think I dumped the carts for it... I received all/most of the carts and dumped the serial ROMs in the unit if I remember right.

If I didn't, the ROMs are sitting in a box somewhere desoldered.

The LCD is a glop top board with no identifying marks.

There are two major families of K-2-8, the Votrax SC01A based unit which uses TMS roms for text/question data (you dumped these kevtris):

These later ones are TMS5110 based, and uses onboard and cartridge VSM's for LPC data. (I wand to make a blog post of the 4 variants at one point)

I dumped a few of those modules, and you dumped a few (hard to track now lol)
