I can easily image all of those disks, and am in the US...

How about this:

Each of our resident DEC aficionados could pledge an amount via PN to LN.

LN could bid on that team's behalf, receive and image the disks, maybe Al could take care of the scanning of the manuals ...

Well, I would definitely pledge a few bucks if LN is interested in doing this

I would also want to donate (if someone in the US can manage it).

The first bunch of disks seems most interesting. GraftWriter (last item) is rare, but definitely not worth 400 dollars.

What about copy protection? Lots of original business titles (Lotus & others) were in fact copy protected.

When we imaged RFKA's disk collection, i made *.FDI images (MFM ? with sampled index pulses) and later heard that MESS/MAME uses an incompatible internal format.

So i'd like to ask: is there a standard procedure?

Manuals are also important, though i think most Lotus & Microsoft titles were direct PC ports (often minus graphics)...

On another note, some small companies over here wrote individual business solutions. We now have (600 or 800 dpi) scans of the docs, but are uncertain if anyone cares enough to host non OCR'ed pages in German ... smile

I'd say the best action would be to create raw flux dumps with one of the many hardware dumpers that support it (KryoFlux, DiscFerret, ...) with at least a couple revolutions for each track, and from that you should be able to reconstruct any disk format and/or copy protection out there.

LN doesn't seem enthusiastic about this as he did neither reply here nor answer my PM asking him to get involved.
Any other regulars here who would agree to bid on the stuff up to the amount pledged by others?

Wait, I didn't get any PMs. What's going on?

EDIT: Re: Bavarese:
.FDI is one of those 'weird' flux formats we don't support YET, but I don't see any reason why someone couldn't add support for it. It is a somewhat complex format since it can represent tracks as pure flux, or in higher level (MFM/GCR) blocks, or as cooked data(i.e. what 'dd' would spit out). Info about the format can be found at http://www.oldskool.org/disk2fdi/support.html

LN, I must apologize: seems I have managed to send myself a PN without including you ... sorry for implying you were not interested.

It's all explained in the thread above, and if you're willing to bid on the stuff, I'll send a real message pledging an amount.

Robert

I'm willing to bid on it, sure. If the disks are standard RX50 disks they can be easily imaged. Documentation might be more difficult to scan, though, it depends on the binding.
