I decapped it a couple of weeks ago but the die stuck in the plastic and I didn't have time to work on it. I spent some time (and HN03) on it today. I didn't get it fully cleaned off, but I did reveal the part #: D557 511.

I tried to electronically dump the TMC1079 from the Canon Multi 8, but I couldn't get consistent dumps at any voltage or with different timing. Right after I decapped it I was worried that the TMS1070 pinout was slightly different from TMS1000, but they are the same. Then when I started documenting the wiring, I noticed that pins 20 and 21 were swapped. I don't use pin 21 (R0) for dumping, but 20 is Vss, the positive supply voltage!

If that's a dumpable one, and someone wants to borrow mine, let me know... Might be easier than cleaning it and photographing it.

I cleaned it up, but haven't ever transcribed ROM bits from a NEC micro before. Reading the datasheets, D557 sounds like a D553 without all the pins bonded out. I had picked up a Bambino Superstar Football in a bulk buy; it has a D553 that Kevin has dumped, so I decapped it. The die is extremely similar to the D557, and the ROM decoding is identical. I figured out how to map the bits to match Kevin's electronic dump, and did the same to Fabulous Fred. I ran the resulting file through unidasm and it looks OK to me, but I'm not familiar with ucom4. Interestingly, the last 48 bytes of Football and Fred are identical, and the datasheet goes to great lengths to say that the chips only have 2000 bytes of ROM (instead of 2^11=2048). So I'm guessing the last 48 bytes are reserved, probably for the test pin functionality. I'll document the hardware and upload everything.

I also got an Entex Space Battle with TMS1000:
EN-6004
MP0920
MS^7923

And an LJN 255 Computer Command Datsun with COP4:
/027B
COP421-NHX/N

And an Incredible Brain Buggy is on the way.

Big Trak clones? I never heard of these.

Someone here mentioned the LJN Corvette (which I assume uses the same chip as the 240Z) a few months ago, but they've always been pretty expensive. I just came across IBB on ebay a couple of days ago.

I posted the Fabulous Fred info:

I visually verified the raw rom of fabfred, all is good. It looks like it's working in MAME, gotta finish up before pushing it to the git repository.

I'm surprised how many of these Gakken(the original manufacturer) released. Google for "ゲームロボット"
- Game Robot 5
- Game Robot 9(this one)
- Game Robot 15(LCD)
- Game Robot 17(LCD, Doraemon version)
- Game Robot 21
- Game Robot 25
- Game Robot 50, looks like a 'modern retro' remake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OTF8w9ZuNw

Cool! I guess "TTGR" on the chip stands for Takatoku Toys Game Robot.

It's not a handheld, but I decapped an Apple ][ keyboard decoder that died: www.seanriddle.com/kr3600.html

That's fantastic, thanks Sean! The //e and //c use a stock AY-5-3600 with an external EPROM to do the keyboard translation; I had to fake it for the ][ and ][ Plus until now.
