Did anyone got the documents on PSP device yet?

Who will be working on the source for MAME?

Just wondering.

I wonder what is the hardest. Games files or the games ISO. smile

No I'm not blasting any of the DEV here.

Other than the official Sony SDK documentation, as far as I know there is no low-level documentation on the PSP hardware. That includes some unfortunately complex subsystems, like the Media Engine or whatever it's called, which handles things like audio and video decompression. It would kind of suck to have an emulated PSP that can't play in-game videos or audio.

For now, nobody. I'm very interested in emulating the PSP, but since none of the other PSP emulator authors seem to be interested in emulating it using anything other than HLE bullshit, there isn't a whole lot of documentation or low-level knowledge to go around. And I'm just not that confident in my MIPS abilities to be able to reverse-engineer the information that's necessary.

In fact, I'm not sure it's either of those: The real hard part is the fact that (just as far as I know) there aren't even any firmware dumps, or dumps of initial bootloader. Without either of those, it would be pretty hard to emulate the PSP properly in MAME.

If you know of any sites that actually have a dumped PSP BIOS or other firmware dumps, I think we'd all love to know about them. At the very least they could be made into a skeleton driver. smile

For some reason I was thinking EBOOT.PBP is the fireware. I'm so wrong about this. PSP system software only. Which can be download from here. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/psp/

I have a PSP 3000 version. This one I think is the best one out of all of the models. smile

Anyway I went to this website just now and I found some of the PSP system board snapshots. Now I know what the PSP system boards look like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable

The only thing I don't like about PSP is the Skype chat. There is no camera support for it. Kind of sucks.

PSP can be patch to where play the games from the ISO and files. Disabled the checking. Won't be enable to use those on the live playing.

Now would be the best time to start buying a heap of PSPs for donation and dumping. Better now than when they end up at $100+ each when those obsolete, proprietary, PSP-only UMD drives all crap themselves.

A skeleton driver is still better than no driver at all - at least that way the games, movies and whatever else was put on UMD can be properly documented even if the driver is still untouched ten years from now. There are a number of machines which haven't worked at all in MAME/MESS ever since they were added.

There is no BIOS dump to make a skeleton driver from.

I still have my release day Daxter Ice slim 2001 version that I can mess around with if needed.

@Dullaron, the screen on the 3000 is horrible compared to the 2001. There's ghosting and blur because it got changed out for the worse. Also, depending on what version of the MOBO your 3000 has, your unit doesn't have the capability of writing to the battery's serial changing it from normal boot to service mode.

Anyway, it would be cool someday to run various downgraders and homebrew using the PSP via MAME if it can eventually gain that capability.

Old TVs have ghosting too. I love that effect. Not hurting me there.

Heihachi_73: They can get a used PSP from here at For $40 + shipping. Dump it and then send it to MAME DEV Team. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-lis...d=1497390489&sr=8-6&keywords=PSP For a start. I saw JAPAN Model PSP1000 seires listed.

This just got posted a few hours ago and seems interesting.

ipltool updated! We finally have a working psp IPL encrypter! Congrats to everyone involved!

Unlike the previously available encrypter (which generated non working blocks), ipltool was tested against real hardware (on DTP-T1000)

Hoping someone show some light on dumping. Will this work? That is the question.

Note: I will be next to dump after someone dump their PSP files. I gotta see this happen.

I'll be getting some boards for dumping this weekend.

Besides scanning them for reference, how do I dump them?

PSP boards, yes.

If there's anything else that would be useful, tell me and I'll ask.

I see you have 5 of those. What that slot thingy on each one? I keep thinking Sony use a cable of some kind to upload something there.

Dullaron, I'm no Sony PSP expert (neither do I have working one), so I cannot tell.

I'll try to scan the boards for reference this weekend, and then I can send them to anyone with the knowledge to dump/decap/analyze them.

Sean, if you'll be tinkering with them, I can send them to you.

Also, I think I have a couple of identical boards, so I can send them to different people if needed.

I don't think any of these are just things you can rip the chips off and dump, much of the rom data (and other things like keys) are probably internal to the customs etc.

Cool at least someone got it dump. I hope that person send it to MAME Dev. smile

PPSSPP Dev gonna freak out. Just kidding. lol

Unknown from the PPSSPP forums reply.

Code
There was a project "uofw" which was some form of reverse-engineering project of the firmware itself, to run on PSP hardware. I think the people who worked on it may have some info about the workings of the "gasoline engine" of the PSP (as compared to the "electric engine" of PPSSPP.)

I think LLE will be a challenging task.

Hi guys!

Sorry for the delay!

Here you can find 600dpi scans of my PSP boards.

Tell me if you need anything else or if I should send the boards to anyone being able to get something out of them.

Look like you gotten Nintendo DS mix up with the PSP scans. I saw the Nintendo DS card slot and name. How did you not notice the different between those? laugh

Those are good scans.

They don't care about the scans if there no dumps sent to them. Letting you know.

So far no dump sent by anyone.

Don't count on Smitdogg dump those anytime soon. He won't do it. Unless he except the payment for his time.

Well, the idea is that most of us being just humble mortal beings, don't have the necessary knowledge or equipment to get the dumps, so it would be nice if some could point us on the scans where are the chips to be dumped.

Also, the scans are nice as documentation.

In any case, if someone wants the boards, just tell me.

Smitdogg might know if he seen those scans. Ask him over here at http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/ to see.

I don't know anyone here does.

I've created a properly encrypted Pandora IPL block using kirk keys rather than using the time attack, it's still jumps to 0xBFD00100 so it is compatible with existing custom IPLs. Block and ipltool info are in the pastebin below:

I gave up hope on PSP get added to MAME. Maybe someday it will happen. smile

There is a crap load of games. PlayStation store download PSOne Classic games will be hard to get added. Also add-ons for the games will be hard to get added as well. The reason is hard to find the rest. Discs won't be a problem though.
