Any chance of having BGFX settings in QMC2? #110113

Currently I've swapped all my games from HLSL to BGFX because it produces better results in my TV. Unfortunately, QMC2 does not handles BGFX settings for each game like it does with HLSL. So my question here is: Are we going to have BGFX settings in QMC2, so we can have individual settings for each game?

You shouldn't need different settings for different games especially since BGFX doesn't handle vector stuff yet.

And while such a feature worked with HLSL (because you can manipulate it with ini files), BGFX doesn't work in that same fashion.

If you wanted different settings for mslug as opposed to 005, you'd have to make a copy of hlsl.json then insert desired settings and rename it to something like 005.json, then switch to that using MAME's internal menu.

I think that this could still be automated / supported through QMC2, but yes, the way to do it with BGFX is totally different. I suppose I would have to feed / control MAME via the LUA console, but there's no real support for this communication path yet.

In fact, I have different settings for horizontal / vertical games only. I'm using one setup for all my horizontal games and another setup for all my vertical ones. The horizontal setup does not look quite good for vertical games and vice-versa.

I will give it a try. But in this case, if it works, I would like to have at least an option in QMC2 which allows me to pick the desired .json config file for each game, it would make our lives a lot easier by not having to access the internal UI to select it every time we go to play a game.

There is no (CLI) option for this in MAME (or none that I'm aware of), so QMC2 can't offer that option either. If this changes I would have to adapt to it anyway.

What? -bgfx_screen_chains lets you specify the screen chains you want with delimiters for screens within a window and between windows (this is important for things like the two player Nichibutsu mahjong games with a small LCD showing each player their tiles (House Mannequin, etc.).

OK. I'll have a look at that. Thanks for the info.

Well, in this case it is already supported by QMC2. There's just no "selection dialog", you have to edit its value manually.

How does it work? Please give me an example. For instance, I have this setting that is different: For horizontal games, it looks better when I set shadow mask strenght to 0.50 and for vertical games, it gets better with a value of 0.30. How can I do that with the current QMC2 interface without having to manually set this in the internal UI every time? (because it does not record these values to an .ini file anymore).

Set it in the machine's emulator configuration (in QMC2). There you'll find the option in the BGFX section (-bgfx_screen_chains) that you can set.

-bgfx_screen_chains takes a list of .json files to apply to each screen (for a multi-screen game). But that seems only tangentially related to what RC wants to do, which is not actually possible since JD removed the BGFX parameters from the ini file.
