I just have to say that I'm amazed at how good all these new vectorized LCD graphics are looking, it looks like you guys have managed to find the perfect way of vectorizing them without losing detail! Maybe the few previously emulated handheld games could benefit of this method as well? At least for this one, if we want to "perfect" the font for "CONGRATULATIONS" and "WINNER", the font is probably ITC Avant Garde Medium: http://www.identifont.com/show?N6(The same font is used for almost the entirety of the instruction booklet for 1978 Electronic Battleship, with a significant tweak to the '1' character by Milton Bradley; the same tweak appears on the font on the reflective plate with the settings switches on Simon, as well.) EDIT: The other font (TIME, GAME SET, SCORE, PERIOD, PLAYER, LEVEL, and BONUS THROW[1]) is probably Helvetica Neue Black: http://www.identifont.com/show?2GY or Helvetica Black: http://www.identifont.com/show?2LHJ[1] Unlike the other words, 'BONUS THROW' is compressed horizontally somewhat. This same font is used for all the text in 'NFL' as well? LN If the original graphics did have some slight imperfections, wouldn't "perfecting" the fonts (or making any kind of "beautification" whatsoever) actually make these more imperfect, as in less faithful to the original? Kinda like fixing a graphic bug in a correctly dumped game? This is also the reason why I still think that it would make more sense for MAME (which has always aimed towards accuracy over any casual player needs) to prioritize the use of high resolution scanned backdrops over the vectorized, super-clean redrawn versions, regardless of how the scaled up images may look on 4K screens (having the option to choose would always be nice, of course). In any case, are the other required backdrops also going to be vectorized and required to be present alongside the ROMs from now on, or are Nintendo's Game & Watch games going to be the exception in MAME?

Again? I thought we finished this scans vs vectors discussion a few pages ago. :P
IMO Konami handheld backdrops, or stuff like arcade Boothill, are too complex to be vectored. As for redrawing the fonts on LCD screens, funny idea but not worth it.

Hap- Looking at the drivers for hmcs40 ucom4, there's a lot of games listed with '*' (noting not emulated by MAME). Does that mean they are dumped but not in yet, or are they not emulated because no one has dumped them? (I need to get moving on sharing my games for this project, so hopefully I can get some of them checked off the list soon! ) And, I can confirm, Bambino Football Classic is a D553C 031 The VFD is a three-color Emix-109. cyan (Team A), green (Team B), orange (football) The colored VFD seems to be the only difference (the sprite shapes are the same, just colored...) And Bambino Race-n-Chase doesn't seem to be emulated yet (only Bambino that's missing I think). It has a Fujitsu chip: EMIX-501 8843319L 42 pin chip like the D553C...

The 42-pin Fujitsu "8843319L" is almost certainly a MB8843, which MAME currently emulates for some classic Namco arcade games.

It was unclear, I changed the footer now to "* means undumped unless noted". It basically means we only know the MCU and serial.
I would love to get more of your handheld collection emulated, but Kevin is really busy these days.

The MB8840 series datasheet mentions a test mode that can be entered by forcing the O0 pin low during active-low RESET. I don't know how that's supposed to work, though.

Do you guys have high resolution scans or frontal straight high resolution pictures of the Game & Watch devices already emulated in MAME? I will make an attempt on vectorizing the devices themselves and try to make them as most photorealistic as they can get, so we can have the screens positioned accordingly on screen and with correct scaling, since scanned images won't be included in the SVG engine anywhere soon (or maybe never).
I would like to start this with Mickey & Donald, Donkey Kong II or Mario's Cement Factory if possible, to see how they come up.

Here's a mirror of incog's Mario Bros, it includes a scan of the opened and closed bezel: http://tsk-tsk.net/net/temp/incog_mario.7zExternal artwork would be better/easier for this. SVG screens are for screens, they don't support inputs. You'd want to be able to click on the buttons and have them animate on press.
