Hi, I was trying to run San Francisco Rush on SDL Mame it runs like crap. The game seems to work except its super slow. I've seen videos on YouTUBE where it runs fine on Windows-MAME . . . does it just not work on SDL Mame?

The info window for the game is green on SDLMame and it says that sound & graphics are OK, but when I start the game I get a notice saying that "One or more ROMs/CHDs for this machine have not been correctly dumped." I have the CHD file and I put it in a folder (which I gave the same name as the rom--missing the extension) in my MAME roms folder. I believe that's the right thing to do.

BTW . . . I am using a non-merged ROM from the 0.193 set, but I don't know what set the CHD file I got is from (or if there's even a difference with CHD files). I have tried a ROM from an older set as well and it runs the same.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

It works fine for me on OSX, which is using SDL. What are your system specs? CPU, GPU, operating system, etc.

A 2.8 i5 is going to be on the slow side for a game like Rush - you want something closer to 3.6 GHz for those 3DFX games.

That sucks. --It didn't even occur to me that my computer wouldn't be fast enough to run a 100MB game from the 90's. I suppose it's because its being emulated.

Oh well! --Thanks anyway!

That "100 MB game from the 90s" is running on hardware roughly equivalent to a G3 PowerMac with a fast-for-the-time 3D card. It's a far cry from the golden age games MAME's often associated with smile

Oh, I see. I guess it was pretty advanced for its time. But I remember playing this game on the n64. I was looking and that's only 94 MHz (yeah, mega-hertz, not giga-hertz). Its amazing that they could get it to run on it. And I don't recall it having a bad frame rate . . . it was a long time ago though.

The N64 version is a port, not emulation. They took the original source code and assets for the game, and rebuilt it to run directly on the N64.

Yeah, I know its a port, but it seemed to me--even with my admittedly limited knowledge of programming--that that is a huge difference in hardware performance from the original and I am impressed that they could do it.
