Is there a new resting place for the hand held art or is https://tsk-tsk.net/net/extart/ still appropriate. Didn't see gng_dkong yet. smile

There isn't any for gnw_dkong.
ICEknight prepared for one, but it was based on a scan where one of the layers was misaligned(a misprint, not a scan problem)

I scanned the gnw_dkong inlays while having the game disassembled and also whipped together a quick artwork file. You can check them out here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2mv1hj3mt79idv2/AACRV5tRtM0hLjPk3_99iTBRa?dl=0

Unfortunately, there is some dust and scratches on the inlays and someone with an eye for graphics can definitely do a better job with the artwork composition. Also, I didn't find any good image of the actual game case so it is quite rough.

Can you also do a scan with them stacked? It'll probably end up better than with an image editor. See "COMBINED" ones here: https://mega.nz/#F!uFYSzK7S!U-lJon9jsqyoCX_3y7_KLA!PUgHiA6A (that's the one with the misaligned layer btw, the blue dots on the bottom screen).

In reality, the LCD sheet is in between the 2 layers? It's possible to do it that way in MAME too, but would need a lot of image editing to make the upper layer look nice, alpha blended.

Scanning them stacked is a good idea, I will try that when I have time for that and will post the results smile

You are correct that the LCD display is in between the two inlays. What I did for the DK artwork was, as I've seen some other artwork do as well, to combine the inlays to one image and show it beneath the LCD screen ("overlay" in layout file) and then add the same combined image on top of the LCD display ("bezel" in layout file) with an alpa-blending of 0.1.

I'll see what I can do to clean and combine those but, comparing them with the previous scans that we had, I'm not sure that the colors look correct? They seem a bit dark (the dotted dark grey parts look plain black, for example).

Since colors are translucent in these, it would be a matter of applying "Multiply" (or similar) blending to the topmost layer, maybe there's some kind of shaders which can do that?

That's how the "COMBINED" images in that folder were made (in Photoshop), for the record.

It would be great if you are willing to give it a try! I agree on the scans looking dark. I'll see if I can rescan the inlays with some other settings and get the colors to look better.

My advice for scanning would be "the less automatic enhancements, the better". We need these things as raw as possible.

Also, slightly pressing the scanner lid while the scan is in progress may help avoiding any blurry sections.

Better features for stacking layers in MAME artwork are coming, but with my notebook computer dead, I can't do much MAME stuff for the time being.

Well, that's really awesome to read, thank you.

If you need any of the scanned inlays so far (both cleaned and as-is), they can be found in my sig.
