The Gentoo Linux r5 LiveCD now gets to this point before hanging:

The IRIX installer can reluctantly be cajoled into trying to install onto the hard drive, but it fails pretty quickly:

The monochrome 19" NCD-19 has almost identical looking hardware but a very different address map. It's kind enough to tell us the unmarked AMD chip is a LANCE though.

Some life from the R4000-based SGI Indigo (IP20):

Not sure, yet, why it's happy enough to be able to give a directory listing of the CD-ROM, but complains about the executable that it loads when trying to boot sashARCS.

Is the IP20 an ARCS machine? NetBSD indicates you must boot a different file compared to IP22/24.

IP20 is an ARCS machine, yes. As it happens, the Indigo doesn't issue a command to set the CD-ROM to 512-byte mode, it just expects the CD-ROM to be in 512-byte mode. If I force the HLE SCSI CD to use 512-byte sectors, after fixing some DMA bugs, sashARCS and FX load just fine.

IIRC at least for some SGI machines, you had to jumper the CD Drive to be in 512-byte mode always (or at least boot in that mode), so the behavior observed makes sense.

First sign of graphical life from the Indigo R4k. I have the driver set up to draw the palette to the screen:

"Press any key to continue", yeah, I'll get right on that.

Also, fixed a really stupid bug that 17-year-old me made back in the day. Now the Indy looks less choppy:
