Is there a way to save the cheat configuration of a game (or to modify a cheat file) to make the settings default on game launch?

Something like pre-enable? There used to be an option for that back in the .dat format but I think it vanished when MAME moved on. I haven't used the cheat system in nearly a decade as I despise having to use the debug UI to search for cheats, which is the equivalent of creating a website using edlin.

Nope, you can assign them a hotkey combination in the LUA engine and press that as the game starts to activate the cheat (s) though.

But you've not needed to use the debugUI to find cheats for over two and a half years as there's been a lua cheatfinder plugin.

Keep up....
