The guys from Five Finger Punch created a new demo last year for the Laser 200: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=77129

After fixing the cassette loading it runs in MAME, but our 6847 clearly isn't up to the task:

Here's the demo on real hardware:

So, this would be a great test case for someone wanting to improve that video core.

I've upgraded the emulated 8-bit XL board in the SGI Indy driver to a 24-bit XL board.

Have some screenshots. The fucking wrong sorting on the pear though, it's my own personal hell.

Some more Indy progress -

I've implemented the Integer Line and Fractional Line drawing modes based on pseudocode in the REX3 documentation that SGI published. It's hardly noticeable, but the lines are now slightly thicker on buttonfly:

I also fixed an off-by-one error when handling the Length32 flag, which was causing cracks in certain geometry. Similarly, I fixed a whole host of other bugs and added alpha-blending support, leading to these two shots:

The Newton demo, in particular, used to look like this:

So, it's a pretty decent improvement.

After literally 9 hours of real time to install at 15% of full speed, I present: IRIX 6.5 running in the SGI Indy driver (ip224613).

I just realized that the background of the Icon Catalog window is not supposed to be black, so I fixed it.

Also, bonus Doom.

Awesome!

I don't recall the background being that color with any of the SGI themes.
Perhaps I can try on the real thing. Which account did you log into?

I booted the Indy, but it's still running Irix 5.3. It has the same desktop background as above, but the icon catalog window has a light blue background. I would expect that to change for Irix 6.5. I'll try booting something up.

I'm not sure I understand. IRIX 6.5 is an entirely different version of IRIX than 5.3, so naturally there are small changes to the UX, like different backgrounds and different color schemes. And likewise, if what you installed on the emulated Indy was IRIX 5.3 (as it would have to be since it's all that worked until yesterday), it's not going to magically become IRIX 6.5 unless you create a new CHD and install IRIX 6.5 onto it.

Here's some WIP in a different form than all of the rest so far:

Edit: Hey, great. Apparently we have the option of embedding a YouTube video that doesn't actually work. Richard, fix your bloody site.
