Donkey Kong Jr. Panorama has now been preserved in MAME.

The game is based on the SM511 and uses an inversed screen where the lit segments become transparent. The colors are provided by a colored inlay.

This is what the game looks like:

Basic artwork providing colors for the display can be downloaded from this dropbox (gnw_dkjrp/artwork): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kkgf101f9ljlb41/AAAh3lW0jMZ0ykHqz4AQtgkYa?dl=0

To make the game display look more like the original, the black background isn't 100% black but instead very dark grey which makes it a bit translucent.

The three small dots under "Game A" isn't a mistake and they exist on the original display and are mapped to specific segments. The original game hides them using a block box on the inlay.

Awesome! Here's a pic of the original, for comparison:

Colors look much closer to it than Madrigal's simulation.

Where did you find the discussion about the alignment? Was it YouTube? I sometimes look for this stuff but no one seems to be talking about LCD games on MAME.

The alignment is shifted in some people's games like the picture in ICEknight's post and some I saw on ebay. I think Henrik got it pretty much right but I've uploaded a tweaked file which fills in Mario better, cleans up the edges a little and also crops the black border.

I haven't done the actual panoramic unit but I've added these in the dkjrp artwork for fun. I know the screen's not technically right.
