The blend attribute is only relevant on element references, not element definitions.

It's just a mistake. I never usually put them on the definitions.

G&W Manhole (Gold) has now been preserved in MAME smile

This game is very similar to the later new wide screen version but that version seems to be a complete rewrite due to different MCU types (SM5A / SM510). Also, the new wide screen version displays animations when a miss happens.

This is what the game looks like:

Now that this game has been dumped, all games in the gold series has been completed. To cover all game variants in the gold series, the CN-07 ROM version for Helmet still needs to be acquired and dumped.

Thanks to Mr. Do for providing the game and Sean for shipping the game to me and scanning inlays and pcb!

Any opinions on whether or not this game should be parent-clone with the NWS version? (same goes for Fire)
I think there's too many differences. Not only are they 2 different releases (like eg. Climber crystal screen and NWS), but unlike the Crystal vs NWS games, these are reprogrammed.

Note that there are no strict MAME rules regarding parent-clone sets, I usually pick what makes the most sense. Sometimes I'm just lazy and do whatever.

In this case and especially Fire, the ROM and LCD graphical portions differ so I think it's a no-brainer to keep them separate.

I've always felt that Egg should not be listed as a clone despite having the same ROM. Besides the LCD's partially differing, they were released and marketed as different games by the same company. Same with DK Circus and Mickey Mouse where the graphics will entirely differ. I certainly see why people will disagree here, so I don't feel as strongly about it.

Definite clones: Helmet (v1), Judge (Green), Balloon Fight NWS, Climber NWS and Super Mario NWS.

Different product with different functionality = new parent.

Cosmetic changes = clone

Basically if it seems to be the same product, then it should be a clone, if it was sold as something different, it shouldn't.

(of course if you apply this to arcade stuff then different cabinet types and different regions might well be new parents too, but for the most part it's best to just apply common sense)

Right, common sense it is. If your opinion was the rule, we'd have plenty arcade bootlegs as "parent".

The Mickey Mouse thing. Tiger did the same with some games btw. I think Nintendo's reason was due to licensing with Disney, and not easy profits by pretending it's a new game(Tiger did that).

G&W Super Mario Bros. (Crystal Screen) has now been preserved in MAME smile

Like for the other CS games, the ROM hasn't been dumped yet from these versions and instead the NWS ROMs are used as they are assumed to be the same. Will though revisit this game later and try to read out the ROM data.

The graphic style is quite different in this game compared to the NWS version which is more detailed. This is a screenshot from the game:

Finished redoing all of the multi screen backgrounds. I think they're worth getting. Also added all of that new cache code. And added the new SMB Crystal Screen artwork:
