Is there a freeware program out there that can let me enter a date in the future and automatically remind me a few days before that date? Maybe with something popping up on the screen at startup? I'm using OS 10.4. Do I already have something that can do that?

I need a piece of software that reminds me that I have a big date planned before I accidentally schedule something else at the same time. It needs to be effective even when I'm not near my computer.

Thanks! Shame on me for not playing around with iCal before posting.

I played with iCal a bit but maybe I'm missing something because I can't get it to automatically remind me of events unless I physically open the program myself to look at the calenders.

But I guess I need to research it more as well.

I just got it to work.

Create a new event in iCal, and open the Info pane (command I).

Next to where it says "alarm", select "Message with sound", and choose how many minutes before the event you want the alarm to go off.

Be sure that in iCal's Preferences "Turn off alarms when iCal is not open" is unchecked.

In your account info under startup items, iCalAlarmScheduler should be there with its "Hide" box checked.

This is under 10.3.9. Your mileage may vary.
