Hey gusy,

Is there a way to save the configuration of the autofire menu (inside the cheat menu), so you can toggle autofire on/off just using the "toggle autofire" shortcut?
Most of the time I just need to activate it on "P1 Button 1", but actually, I have to open the cheat menu and turn it on at every launch of the rom.

Thanks!

You're using an outdated version of MAME – autofire in the cheat menu has been removed in favour of the plug-in. Use an up-to-date version of MAME and use the autofire plugin. The plugin has more configuration options and supports saving configuration.

Hey Vas,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I updated Mame and tested the the new autofire plugin.
Now it’s possible to create and save the configuration, and that is great!

The only thing I have is that I would like to assign the hotkey to the same button I’m using as “P1 Button 1” but it doesn’t seems possible (with the old system instead was very easy).
Is it something related to my keyboard (I’m using SDL MAME with the Apple keyboard), or maybe there’s a way to a achieve this result that I’m ignoring?

The autofire buttons should be thought of as being wired in parallel with the regular inputs. If you have the same key applied to both, you will be holding down the button as well as activating the autofire circuit. The autofire will do nothing because the button in parallel with it is being held. With the old internal autofire feature, there was no way to hold down a button if you had autofire enabled for it.

In my opinion there are really few games where you need to hold down a button if you had autofire enabled for it (just some shooting games where you can have a secondary more powerful fire that you need to load before have the chance to release).
In all the other cases, it's very convenient to have only 1 button to press, so when you press it you have the auto-fire automatically activated.
If it's not something impossible or too hard to code, it would be awesome if you will give to the player the option to use the auto-fire function also in this way, enabling the mapping of the hotkey to the same button of the fire.

Please Vas, keep in mind I'm not a developer, I'm just giving some suggestions from a player prospective.
Thanks!

Then just unmap the regular input for that button for the games where you only want autofire.
